We are trying to track down a key for the gate, but as it stands we have a backup plan in affect.

From Rocky Mountain House on highway 11 come West too Swale Road that's better known as the Camp 15 road or Harlick road.

The Harlick Camp sight is on the North side of highway 11, the Swale road as its called now is 600 meters East of the Harlick Camp sight. Big wide road leading North.

This is where we will meet at 10:30am

From the town of Nordegg turn off come East on hwy 11 for 12.5 kms. Again, the Swale road is going North.

You'll see quads and trucks at turn off.
Little black Ford 1/2 ton with red Honda Quad in box.

Pm or reply on this thread if your coming out, that way we know who we are waiting for.

Thanks again all as you'll see an area from a different way back there.

Bring warm Gear, water, food... I and others might have a chain saw and shovels.

This is a light trail work over, and slow sight seeing in the bush.

No racing.

Family ride let's say.

From the last set of lights on the North side of Rocky Mountain House at the Candian Tire come West on hwy 11 for 76 kms too Swale Road. Range Road 14-1A.

45 minute drive ish out too this road from Rocky Mountain House.

You'll see my little black truck with red Quad on board.

Looks like it will be nice out here.
Still partly cloudy tonight, but it suppose to be warmer for Saterday.

We camped out right at the Big Horn Dam last night as the temps were not chilly at all. Nill for any snow on North side of Dam, warm Chinook must of rolled threw here.

Light fogg close to Dam site, but up top at the highway it is blue skies,,, then back tracked too Nordegg as the fogg clouds are lefting as I type.

So our meeting spot is RR 14-1A North / Harlick area as the road Northerly is called the "Swale Road."

From Rocky Mountain House at the Candian Tire on the North end of town its 76 kms too were we we meet on hwy.

Water, coffee in thermos, warm Gear, food, plastic riding partners, and all are welcome to join in.

I'll try my best next time too let others know a week or 5 days in advance these gatherings.

A kinda plan that works for me/us is too prep trails a bit, and ride/sight see threw the day. Bon fire lunch and visit a bit threw out the day.

Let's call it the 20% trail / 40% sight seeing /30% fact finding /10% Bon-fire lunch coffee break.



The trick for us is too do work overs in small chunks as it allows us too return many times threw the year,,, and free ride after work overs allows us a chance to see other spots that need addressing too.

Kinda like piece work as it all comes together at the end of the season so we can enjoy our rewards with our OHV tracks when snow is on the ground.

A well prepped trail is a all year thing.

Wholly crap, she's a go out here by Nordegg.
No clouds, full sun shine and blue skys for as far as one can see.

And ohvs left right of center out here.

A little bit of a mix up for Saterday, but it worked out after all.

Those of us with the Big Horn Heritage ATV Society meet up with the Nordegg folks too gather information on how the trails behind the Dam are holding up.




This is the first ingadement of trail repair 2017.

This is a reason too keep the area open for all user groups, best we OHV and Snowmobile folks get on board before it is closed to us.

The BHAS has been putting in volunteer time in the Big Horn Dam ares and Hummingbird since 2002.




We sure hope that others come on side with us as we need the help more than ever.






The little Onda has never been packed down like this before, Ha.


Lots of chain saw work too get too the trail area that needs attention.


Yuppers, just as expected,,, trail repair is due.

The main bridge is so what intact.






Sections need fixing, this is where people come in at.
It will take a week too fix it up.
1 or more days would be nice for folks too help out.


We're lucky as the BHAS has companies that will offer the materials too fix things up. And units too bring this stuff too location.


But having folks too set and secure in place is a must.

Ha. And we got the chance too see a Polaris push out a Polaris with a stiff rope.


Today I took on another area while Cal and the Nordegg folks get all things lined up for the work over.


Cabin on Wheels is still rocking as our season is well underway.




I found some used horns, but no Bull Winkel.


So it turned out too be a good weekend with warm temps and blue skies.

So here's the game plan going forward for the Big Horn area.

I'll post on this thread when I get the heads up when we get the go ahead.

We here in Alberta are dam lucky too have Cal Rakach helping us out with this stuff as he does his thing at higher levels.

This is no easy task as there are road blocks when dealing with the Province.
Its a wait and see for now.

So I hope too give a heads up for folks with units, hammers, and time too help us out.

Thanks all for everything so far, and let's try in some way too come out when or "if" things play out for us in that area.

Ha. Wyan is a pretty kool dude for sure, he sure is enjoying his Honda SxS as he packs his old dog with him on his outtings.

As for the bridge fixing it's still up in the air as Cal needs to get a Provincial permit I'm thinking, then what the mediator were talking about was a 5 too 7 day getter done thing.

In and out with the least amount of damage and with in a time frame.
I'll know more when Cal gets back with me. Hopefully with ahead of the job so I can let all of us here on S&M know ASAP.

That way folks can schedule into their daily lives.

The folks from Nordegg will be out there when it's a go but it's nice to have a backup plan as this thread is all about that.

Thanks all for taking the time too stay up dated, and I'll check at the end of this week too see how the post cards are coming.
They might even switch them to letter size paper as its faster and easier too print them off.

Stay tuned as I'll give out the rally cry when things get underway.

Ha. At times I wounder if Wyan is older than the dog. LOL.
Both are friendly and like getting scratched behind the ears. Ha.

As for signing up on trail repairs it's not mandatory, but if one wants to,,, a person can join the Big Horn Heritage ATV Society "BHAS" like the a few of us have.

$25 for individual,,, $40 for family.

These funds go towards trail repairs and signs as the work stuff is voluntary.

It's the first time I've joined a like minded group of folks that OHV, camp, hunt, fish, relax, and put in some time helping out.

From young too no longer 21 mixed group of folks.
Cal is awesome, so are the others... Beyond middle age John is a wealth of knowledge along the length of Alberta's Eastern Slopes.

40 ++ years working and enjoying the mountains.
Lots of these folks know these areas like the back of their hands.

So trails are now things of the past as mother nature has claimed them back with wind blown trees downed, buck brush over growth, rock and Mud slides, and rivers changing paths.

OHV's don't go every where like some folks think. Land mass too trails in the Big Horn are less then 1% of trails too land mass.

Can't drive a OHV threw the trees if the trees are thick,,, the trees out there are thick as thick can be.

Access by trails only as its been this way for all user groups dating back to the stone age days.

Interesting too hear this stories of the old days.

Reminds me of the story my gramps told me of the area behind Onion Lake called "Windy Pass."

Forestry opened the trail back there in 1956/57 as gramps drove his 4 door 2 wdr Station wagon into Windy Pass too chip away at rocks with his prospectors hammer. Ha.

Don Griffus was back there about the same year in his dads old car.

Just like Brian Jean said at the Edmonton Rally. Save the crown lands for what,,, their no good too us if they don't get used respectfuly by us,,, the owners of our crown lands.

This is why I'm on board with this idea, and the wizer folks that want us too take it too task as well.

PS: I'll be in contact with Cal Rakach in a few days too find out how things are working out for the bridge and trail repairs.

And the post card / letter forms of free crown land camping And being able to use the trails that are there.

I'll post a link to BHAS as well for others that choose to join in on good times and wize knowledge from the folks that know what it is going to take too keep this movement going.
