Modman I don't think there is many one shot wonders around here(western canada) maybe in haydays events, thats about it. I don't think your going to have to worry about that.
On our motors I set up the piston clearances on all our motors, our nikasil is done our way and to our thickness spec, ported for elevation mtn riding, torque. all heads/motors are set up to run pump gas and make the most power. Thats how we set up our customers.

Ted, sounds good. I know you have some good motors out there. Not directing this at any specific builder, all I'm saying is that having an event like the BIS and having builders/riders show up and make a few passes, one rider stands out in the crowd, and everyone says "WOW, that guy has so and so's engine, they must really make some power" when in all reality, the motor was purpose built for an event like the BIS, is running straight race fuel, did not last more than the two days at the event, and is not your average "trail friendly" big bore. It happens more than you think in the west.

To me a BB, is something that, once setup, should run pretty much flawlessly, much like the stock motor, with minimal tuning, for a long time and make lots more power.

If you have a "big bore", that needs jetting every 1000 ft, race fuel, does not run well below 5000 rpm due to port timing, and has a narrow peak power curve of 100 rpm with clutching that engages at 7500 rpm, this is a race motor, not a big bore IMO. Sure anyone can build one and take it to the event and win, but this is not really what they're selling to their customers. That's all I'm saying, lets run a real world BB test in all sorts of conditions in stock chassis' same track length, everyone fuels up at Chevron in the morning, and for several days. This to me is a real world test and will show which BB s have good value for the dollar spent by the consumer.

Agree with Modman...a multiple day/event challenge would prove to be more accurate as to what runs well and what doesn't.
Climbing, sidehilling, boondocking, tree riding...need to cover all the aspects of riding. Most guys can point a powerful sled up a hill and press GO - at least once. Takes more than that to prove a sled's ability and reliability not to mention the rider's.

Ted...you fix our sled up real nice so we can kick some azz!

I have a M1000 ,and im putting a D&D 1200 Big bore kit with the twin pipes. so we'll see how that works for me.

I had Dave at A & E in Brookes do a 860 kit and his other related mods to my 08 800. WOW it just works, no issues, no special fuel, just push the happy button and go. BIG time improvement over stock.
