I hit a tree and broke the one on the other side with all the ground wires. Actually it didn't break until we started booting on the bumper to make it straighter. Anyway, l stuck my aluminum mig gun in there and a couple zaps later it was solid. I figured l had nothing to lose. FYI the Assault, all aluminum, one is way cheaper if you have to replace.

I was thinking about trying to get someone local to weld it but was worried about heating it up like someone mentioned earlier. And was unsure if the material was weldable ?

It is more than likely coated with an anticorrosion substance. Kinda like galvanized metal. Very hard to weld.

I didn't think it was weldable either and expected the material to just vapourize but it didn't. I prepped the piece with a bit of beveling. If l had to take it apart and then pay someone l would have just bought the assault one. I don't think it got that hot. You could wrap the area with a cold wet rag.

It’s aluminum no need for corrosion coating. It oxidizes but it’s clear and does it almost instantly when it hits oxygen.

Like said if you want it welded I will tig weld it and do it properly. If it was mig welded one one sled tig welding will hold for sure. Groove it out and weld it so there’s no crack left and it will be tougher then the surrounding material.

Really I wonder what it was? I know there’s sealers for after it’s polished but not a raw aluminum peace.

Did you use brake clean on it before welding? People have become really sick from the phosgene gas created when the shield gas and whatever is in some brake clean's combines under heat.

I didn't do anything but wire brush clean it with my dedicated wire brush. It was bad stuff. I had to go outside in the clean air and even after that it wasn't good. Had a welder buddy of mine give me sh1t cause he said people have died from the coating that can be put on it. Still dont really know what it was.
