So, I just found out Skidoo no longer makes the semi synthetic xp oil. I recall you were not to use a certain oil in the 1000sdi's cause the rod bearings had a short life on it. I've always used the old xp semi syn oil, but have ran out. What is the best oil to run in the SDI's now? Yes I used the search, but it wasn't turning anything up.

Full synthetic from BRP is where you want to go now. Can't go wrong.

I used the full synthetic doo oil on my 1000 and had 7500 kms on the engine with no problems....
Thanks Summitric. I didn't know if you were still on here, I haven't logged in since 2016 I believe. I didn't see any answers before I left work, so I picked up 2 jugs of royal purple 2C. Think I'll have any issues with this? I've done all the other mods that you helped me with years ago.

The oil did not cause the rod to fail, it is belt dust entering the intake track from a bad design and lack of fuel running through the base to help keep the crank clean. Generally it is the PTO side that will fail at the rod.
Remove the intake track and install a prefilters. Then use BRP's oil, you'll be good to go.

Hi. As stated above, I have already done the other mods. I recall there was an oil that you weren't supposed to use due to the SDI design, as you mention the rod failed due to the buildup of crap in the crank case and bearings. I think they suggest a thinner oil in layman's terms. I think I found my answer last night. Just going to run the royal purple.
Edit: my engine is at around 4000km or just over
