i have the pieps dsp and i like it, 1100 has the ortivox the one thats like a flip style phone and its pretty sweet too, the mammut would be great if your whole group had them for the use of the pulse detector. take an avalanch course and they usually have all the good ones there for you to try

The Pieps DSP and the Barryvox Mammut Pulse are the best out there. After taking our AST1 course however, we decided to go with the Pieps DSP. Much easier for multiple burial searches. One word of advice...... get rid of your old analog beacons, you may be good at using them but the digital 3 antenna ones are soooooo much easier. Here is a good website with the beacon reviews.

I like the Tracker beacons myself. They are one of the easiest to operate. In a panic situation ease of use is where it's at imo. On our level 1 course the trackers found the buried beacons the fastest. Around $300 very affordable and good battery life, some of the other beacons used battery life up quickly in search mode and the searchers were hooped

Sly:

Totally agree - for ease of use I don't think they can be beat. Very intuitive. My 12 year old is a whiz on her's. She is actually way quicker than me on a multiple burial. Maybe its because she takes more time burying them for me when we practice..........:)

I have the Pieps DSP, much better than some others like SOS. You can mark up to 5 signals and it will cancel out those so you could pick up other signals in a worst case scenario. It shows the number of buried victims and has a few more other features that are pretty cool. Easy to use but not the cheapest, but you pay for what you get.

Buy one that you feel most comfortable using!! And don't forget to practice with it. I have a DSP and love it!! Easy to use and navagate with. When it comes down to it, buy what you like.

We also use the Trackers...like them, easy to use and my kids caught on real fast, and yes we practice with the kids lots before every trip...I feel confident that in a real emergency they could use them...

The DTS tracker and Tracker 2 are by far the easiest to use. The baryvox pulse is nice but its designed more for heli ski guides, it has alot of complicated features that the average person would never use, and it only shows the pulse of the victim if they are wearing a baryvox pulse too

I work in the avi industry and have tried all of the beacons out there. I would recommend the Pieps or the Pulse. No matter what, make sure that the beacon that you buy is a three antenna digital beacon, nothing else comes close to ease of use and speed. I know they are expensive, but you get what you pay for. Just my 2 cents.

Also does any one know where these can be purchased in edmonton or valemount?

We sell the Pieps DSP to snow and mud members for 429.00+GST and includes shipping by mail. Takes about 3-4 day to anywhere in the west.
