Bent Tunnel - Replace with Used?

Has anyone replaced a tunnel on their sled before because it was bent? How do you deal with the different VIN number on the tunnel that you buy?

Cut it out of the original and rivet it over the new one. In BC at least I believe you can apply for an assigned VIN that a body shop rivets on with special rivets. Big pain and it takes awhile.

just get a bill of sale with the used tunnel,
I know with cat when purchasing a new tunnel for a exiting unit we used to have to cut out the vin on the old tunnel send it to them and they would stamp the new tunnel before it was shipped.

MUR is correct, talk to your dealer they will contact cat and send in your old vin and stamp it on the new tunnel before they send it out.

I did a swap with a used tunnel on my '07 Summit. The used tunnel came with bill of sale showing the proper VIN numbers on it. Switched my insurance & registration to the "new" sled as soon as it was all back together.

I just took a pictures of the old vin, sled, and the insurance papers, put a wrap on the tunnel so there is no visible vin. I hope the RCMP will take that as proof!!!!

Never had any one ask any questions yet.

I have built quite a few mod sleds and all have had cr tunnels installed. I have never worried about cutting apart the oem tunnel to save the vin, but have instead kept the tunnels in the shed to be sold with the sled to the next owner. I always have my current insurance and plate in the underseat/tunnel bag and have not had anyone ask me to compare the vin on the insurance and registration to the vin that should be on the tunnel. This is not saying that it would never happen (when you have the wrong cop on the wrong day)... but simply saying that I have never had an issue. In my opinion it looks way more shady to rivet a cut piece of a tunnel with a vin on it onto a aftermarket tunnel or a oem tunnel with another vin underneath it. Not to mention what that would do to your bibs and boots after a couple rides. If the machine is worth doing a tunnel swap and a used tunnel is what you are trying for, find a part out that you can buy tunnel and bulkhead together and make sure it comes ready to insure and register or consider finding a unit the same as what you have and doing your own part out. This will leave you with all the extra parts you foresee yourself needing in the future, and help pay back the money required to repair your current machine.

What part of the tunnel is bent?
The rear half of Cat tunnels are replaceable. VIN not an issue. Front half is a different story.

The tunnel that is bent is a 2015 Pro RMK. Not my cat. Its bent behind the skid mount.

There are two options for you here.

A. Give Chad a call at cr racing and pick yourself up a sexy aftermarket tunnel.... but that will come with a pretty hefty price tag but will strengthen the pros weak spots (behind the drop brackets and in the foot wells)

or

B. There is a guy in evansburg that is parting out pros and sells the tunnel with bulkhead. I sold him a 15 pro to part out and I know his prices are “fair” his number is 780 621 6369

I myself will always go the cr racing route.
