About 3/16 of a inch is max above the secondary pulley. You also can check deflection by placing a straight edge on the top of the belt then push down on the belt in the center between the clutches untill you see the bottom of the belt start to move then measure from the bottom of the straight edge to the belt. I cant remember what the number is but it should be in your manual along with the procedure. I go by feel and eye as i have done this for a long time and after a couple adjustments you will be able to look and know if it needs adjustment These D/D do like the deflection tight though. You should not be blowing belts unless there is lots of miles on it or an alignment problem. I currently have 1200 miles on my belt on a M1K and have never blowen one. I did make changed to my secondary though. Hope this helps
