Don't think there is a set marker.... Just take it easy on the way up, Giver a little & go easy some.... Run it all over, But I would not go full off the start.

Give er long enough to get it hot(mile or so) and shut it down and let it cool off, repeat three times and your belt is properly broke in.

First wash it with warm soapy water, that way you don't get the oil residue all over your clutch, then keep off/on throttle for about 20 mi....... should be good to go....

To quote from the BRP manual: "A new drive belt requires a break in period of 50km(30 miles). Avoid strong acceleration/deceleration, pulling a load or high speed cruising"

Best thing is when you get a new belt(before you really need it) is to run it on the trail in then switch to your old belt for the day, switch back to the new one for the ride out, should be good to go when it's needed.

Those big cc units can toast a belt pretty fast. I "try" not to pull too hard accelerating or decelerating for 30km or so and they'll easily last 1500km. The manufacturer says to run them 50km.

yep washing in soap and water and 20-25 kms easy going accelerating up and down will go a long way to long belt life.

worst thing to do on a new belt/or sled is hold it wot as the belt is tight and the sled is not warm either, as bigfoot says everyone above has good advice, considering the belts are 40 bucks anymore....lol its worth a little tlc

Here is the belt breakin tecnique from my 2008 Arctic Cat service manual:

DRIVE BELT BREAK-IN — It is critical for maximum
drive belt life to allow the belt to break in before
subjecting it to hard use such as wide-open-throttle
operation or hill climbing.
The first 20 miles on the drive belt should be at 1/2
throttle or lower. This will allow the belt to gain its
optimum flexibility and will extend belt life. Do not
exceed 50 MPH during the first 20 miles.
If this procedure isn’t followed, it is possible to
destroy a new drive belt in less than 50 miles. This
should be explained to customers at the time of drive
belt sales.
To increase the life of a drive belt, it is very important
that the belt be warmed up before subjecting it to any
type of use. In cold temperature (0° or below), the
engine should be allowed to idle for a period of 8 to 10
minutes. This will allow heat from the engine compartment
to soften the drive belt. Not only will this procedure
increase belt life but will also help prevent engine
damage from cold seizure.
Each operator should be instructed to drive the snowmobile
for several minutes at a low throttle setting to
warm the belt up before using wide-open-throttle. This
practice should be followed on all models for maximum
belt life.
In addition to instructing each operator about these
drive belt break-in procedures, Arctic Cat also recommends
that the operators be informed that a drive belt
(like brake pads, wear strips, etc.) is considered a normal
wear item and is listed as an exclusion on the Arctic
Cat Limited Warranty.
