As Bnorth said we were up riding on Sunday, it was my 3rd season up there (first ride this year). It is great that everything is well marked, and with trail passes and CO's on site, it really helps keep the yahoo's to a minimum.

My two complaints are:
1) They have a trail rating system similar to a ski hill (Green [easy], Blue [intermediate], Black [advanced]) now my complaint is, I rode a number of each of those trails (mostly single track) and there was no real difference in the skill level's required to ride them. In fact some of the green runs were more challenging then the black runs, just because they get ridden more and were more whooped out. So my complaint is the trail rating really doesn't seem to mean anything, at least in the single track department. Then again all of the double track should be classified as green.

2) Lack of challenging terrain. Like I said I have been riding there for 3 seasons now, including prior to them charging for either a day pass or a required membership (not that I think that is a bad thing), I am an intermediate rider at best I have been riding off an on most of my life, but rarely get out more then 6 riding days a year. My wife is a beginner / intermediate rider, and on all the trails that we rode, there were only a couple that stopped her on her first attempt. I was never denied on any of my first attempts on any trail that we rode, there were some at about my limit, and some that would be past it had it been wet, but that condition doesn't happen very often around there. Bnorth probably rides 50+ days a year, and is an advanced rider, I would say he is borderline bored riding there, the only thrill for him is pushing himself to go faster through the trails, but there is nothing technically challenging for him, that we have come across to this point. I would say over the last 3 seasons I have covered 90% of their marked trail system.

One last thing that I really do like that they have added, is the kids skills building area. I saw lots of young riders in there, practicing up and I think it is a very worthwhile investment.

as a local i have stopped riding there. i use to love riding there, but after they closed most of the good trails and blocked off anything challanging. i like many other locals have moved on. not that what there doing in bearcreek is a bad thing. i see their points. but personally i like to off trail ride and i dont want or need the aggrevation of dealing with a co or ranger. as a location to take the family or teach younger riders, bearcreek is perfect.

Bear Creek is a great facility, as Dvst8r said it lacks in challenging terrain though from what I understand if you go further up the road there is some more challenging terrain that has been cut by locals or is just not yet marked on the maps. I am tremendously impressed with what the volunteers have done there and the amount of tenure they have managed to secure. I have no problem buying a trail pass (costs far less than one for sledding) and I think the facility is a glimpse at the future of OHV recreation. Between the Greenies/Lefties and the idiots of our sports we are going to see more areas closing and this is a sustainable way to manage an OHV recreation area. I look forward to the future development at Bear Creek as the trail system only covers about 1/10 of their tenure so far. I really hope to see a pro-zone type area and an area for trials/technical riding.

Ideally we would be able to keep riding wherever we want but with urban sprawl, bleeding hearts, and motorized retards I think we will see more OHV's in the future. Sadly I much prefer bombing on trails where you hardly see anyone else all day.
