So when you take your helmet or pack off you need to unplug the junction box cable? Might have to try one.

Yes, the beacon will key your radio when on the lower frequency channels (146 MHz neighbourhood).Have you ever checked for interference between your beacon and radio? Read somewhere that if a radio is within 30cm of a beacon, it causes static interference.

So is the speaker is built into the throat mic or is there an earpiece? I just find that if you have an ear piece it is hard to keep it where you want it when putting your helmet on.
