OK, I would like to thank my angel that was riding with me last night(Monday). Here is the story. My son, his friend and I decided to go out for a quick nite ride last night before supper just around where we live. Nothing major just that we missed the sunny day as everyone was working and it got dark quick. We unloaded and ran up to the gas station to top off with fuel, then decided to head for some ditches we new had good drifts. Well, Im leading and I KNOW the country...except for this falking barbed wire fence. Yup CC was going about 50mph and wham, I never saw it. Took my eyes off the trail for a second and there it was. I went clear through it, stretching the wires till they pulled me and the sled over. I never got a scratch! I know all the rules of riding at nite...Im the one who said to the boys that t=we should be carefull for wire, just in case. So everyone, if this will help anyone, no matter what be carefull. I was being carefull but chit happens. I am so lucky. Sled has some damage to the throttle, some scratches but thats it. Again, if this can remind all of you to be carefull as I am a carfull driver but honestly the fence came up outta no where.

Glad to hear you are OK. Even if you can see it it is usally too late to stop, even in he day. I've hit some too in the past in an area that I was very used to riding in. It can be very nasty...

There was a young boy killed because of that, lots of rumors how it happened. It was just one line strung across the trail.

sounds exactly like a near miss i had myself, a friend of mine came over to ditch bang around legal where i live, took him out towards vimy through the farmers fields. snow was real good this year (bout 4 yrs ago), after crossing a range road, entering the next field i noticed my windshield peeling open like a tin can, jammed on the brake, but it was too late and could feel the wire digging into my waist, eventually falling onto my hood. if i woulda been going much faster it coulda cut me in half. same time of night ridin as mentioned earlier post...... so everyone please ride safe this winter and make it back home to your loved ones, also have a merry christmas and a great new year! CHEERS:beer::beer::)

Good to hear your alright. I had kinda the same thing happen years ago on dirt bike was out ripin down a trail then all of suden there was one electric fence wire across the trail, and it hadn't been there before. dam thing thing was even live, got the wire right in the chest and got a few zaps to. Haven't these people that put up fence wire ever heard of flaging tape.

lots of the 1 wire things go on. unfortunatly. a few years back, ok more than a few, was still in high school riding ariound the stony area. going down a trail through the bushes, been don it a hundred times already that winter, all of a sudden saw a glint from the sun. let go of the throttle and fell off the back of machine. didn't get hit but was really close. someone had tied not strung but deliberatly tied a section of barbed wire about 3 ft up between two trees along the trail. scary chit.
another one to watch out for is gates that have been opened and left laying on the ground. if ya catch those they stop you pretty quick and it hurts like hell goin over the bars when your rippin. even when going slow.

Happens quick, lots of the farmers around here are stringing up new fences to capitalize on pasture from the poor rain years we have had. Lots of half fences and that kind of stuff.

that could have ended badly. one of my moms friends has a terrible story that relates to barbed wire. both of her kids were on the quad and the one kid who was driving hit a fence, cut his head off, quad rolled over and crushed the girl who was riding passenger.....be careful out there.
