I have't tried them but a couple of big thing with antennas is how high they are and a ground plane. Your metal roof is an excellent ground plane

I have a bunch of these radios. They work great. Range is good even with a mountain between. But if a guy is chilling in the cabin his range is reduced a bit. Not sure if a tractor cab would be the same but probably will still have good range in flat land. Batteries can last a couple days in the cold no prob.

Just got another 50 in if anyone needs one. They are great for quading and dirt biking too. I can also put the marine channels in for boaters

If I ever buy a different mobile for my truck it would be one of these. Why not mount one of these in your toy hauler? I think they would get way better range with a good antenna.

[h=2]BTECH UV-50X3[/h]This is the one I would get now (i have the older 5001). With this one you can use it as a repeater. That would make it great for hunting as you could be twice as far or more from your buddy and still talk to him. I could bring them in if there was enough demand but I would need to put in an order of 50.
