has anyone ever done a backflip on a sled? i have really been wanting to learn how to do one, any tips?

Other than wanting to test out the Canadian health care system...why? screw it up once and you can pretty much guarantee your sled is going to be a write off.

But, if its worth doing that badly to ya, from what I know of it, its all about the ramp design to get your rotation started, then using the trackspeed to keep the rotation going through the flip. If u watch Levi Lavallee's flips on youtube, you can hear the motor just screaming in the background as he keeps it pinned. Much like the front wheel and rear brakes are used in the air on a dirt bike, you need the track speed to keep the sled rotating under the gyroscope effect. No track speed to keep the rotation and you'll probably fall out of the sky upside down.:( Don't over-rotate or you'll land on the tunnel and likely bend it, don't under-rotate or you'll land skis first and likely bend the bulkhead.

it doesnt matter how daring you are as soon as you start heading for that ramp thats when you will realize that you may or may not have it in you....when chris burandt did his first backflip he took 30 runs at the ramp and just drove right by. he couldnt do it. eventually he got it but it was hard for him to do. you have to WANT to do it. that means broken bones and broken sleds, helicopter rides and expensive bills. not saying you cant or wont. but getting tips on the internet wont help. you have to want it.

and like stated before the ramp is everything. alot of backcountry riders are getting so good at it they can do it off alot of natural features with a little bit of work.

what kind of machine do you have. not saying you cant or wont do it. go hard. but be prepared for the worst. full body protection would be reccomended when 500lbs lands on your chest aswell.

the sled of choice seems to be factory 600cc sno-x sleds, like the Cat sno pro, 'Doo XP-RS, and Polaris 600 racer....except for Mullins on the Nytro. he did everything the guys on the 2 smokers did, and then some.

well it probly wont be this season then. you need a good 121,136 race type sled with a wide stance and a very good suspension setup. also the time to get used to the sled to be comfortable enough with it. i dont think theres enough time left for that this season

Just curious,, do you do freestyle or something?? Because for somebody to just up and do a back flip out of the blue is a little nutty...
