Back country navigation class

I'm posting this thread to get a feeler out as to see if there is any interest.
I have noticed many are using devices and Apps to help them navigate in the back country.
As the title states, i will modify expert map reading, compass usage and GPS to its basic level, combining them to allow you as a back country rider to feel confident in using these tools.
Never again will you get lost or misread direction.
I'm a 10 year military vet with expert level training and i'm willing to share some of my skill's. If there is interest.

Great idea, unfortunately I’m not a candidate due to location. I researched what was available for education around this a couple weeks ago and was surprised at how little is out there other than RTFM. I did, I still suck. In person education would be the cats pajamas.

My intention would be to make this a two day course, one day in the class room and the second day in the field to put into practice what was learned.
The only way to make this happen is to have enough people interested to cover the cost of a conference room or community hall for the in class session.

I would try to centralize the course, maybe Revelstoke and you never know from there i might be able to put one on in Valmount.

Yes, with today's electronics and a good working brain it is pretty easy. Also, being able to contact friends to help out if needed (inReach) makes it more or less relaxing exploring the back-country.

I will be concentrating this strictly on back country navigation only. Anything to do with communication won't be covered.
Its really not needed there are plenty of devices out there to help you with com. and all else fail's a sat. phone will do the job, which is what i prefer for what I DO.
Any type of communication device is preferable over nothing, you pick your tool and don't ask me for recommendation, its your decision.

Up north here there is a lot of areas with no cell service, so I finally ordered a inReach. Now I will learn to use it.

This is a really good idea, too many relying on battery powered devices as their go to backup and have little to no other knowledge otherwise.
If you need help with this, let me know i'm all in favor of this and should be a must along with AST1.
