Been reading a bunch on here and talked to a few guys on the hill about the 850s being terrible for fouling plugs during break in. Thought it was just an 850 issue, sure enough chit chatted a guy last time I was out and he was on his 3rd set of plugs in 85km on his new 800. Same day mine (700ish km) started spittering and sputtering a couple times on the bottom end and cleared up as the RPMs came up. Would have to think just break mode over fueling and oiling and ill swap em out when its done (17 hours at 5000+ rpm) ? Anyone else having problems with 800s fouling?

I did with mine. It seems pretty good now with 6XX Kms

I have fouled a few plugs on the 800’s. But always keep a spare set.

Usually after I do some slow riding following my kids around.

I think they are pretty rich in the low end. Maybe I should check my TPS but I’d rather be rich than lean.

A guy in our group bought a new 800 this year and he fouled 3 sets before even getting the sled loaded LOL.
Took it back to Cycle Works and they reflashed the ecm (so they claim) and knock on wood it’s been fine since.

My buddies brand new Hardcore did that last trip. 80km Saturday, no issues. Wouldn’t even start Sunday morning on the deck plugs were so wet

I had to give mine throttle while pulling it this weekend. Only happened once

Ran good other then that...perhaps she just wanted to feel like an old carbed sled for a short time? Haha

i only have 47 miles but no fouled plugs as of yet

Im in the habit now of giving it just a bit of throttle every time I start it. Worked like this for this long LOL. My Cat was the same way. Sometime would start and sometimes not unless a little throttle was given.

My buddy had to do the same on his 800 Dragon, 2 years ago. He bought it 6 years ago. The original owner did a top end, SLP pipe and can, VForce reeds. We put a fix kit in it, and was a good thing, piston skirts both had hairline cracks. Years later, he had to blip the throttle when starting or it was a no go. Finally, and luckily on the trail 3 km from the truck, it let go. Once we pulled it apart, the VForce reeds had chipped, cracked, and broke off a few pieces. That's why it would not start without a blip of the throttle, and we figure pieces went through the engine. VERY VERY fortunate this was 3 km from the truck!

Anyway, I am just sharing, as the blipping the throttle when pull starting reminded me of this story. Not saying this is going on with any newer machines. My '98 VMax 700 loves a touch of the throttle when you pull the rip cord. Easiest way to start it and nothing wrong with that machine!

Was out the other day at 900ish meters. Most the day I was pulling 8250, a few times the sled would kind of crackle. I noticed it did this more towards the end of the day. And it was when I got on the throttle hard

No CEL, clutched to 0-3000ft im running altitude perf clutch kit.

Anyone else experienced this on their 800 ?

To reply to myself….if anyone cares lol

It was my ggb can, I tried two (warranty) and still had the same issue.

I am now running a NPP can, seems to work well

I'm probably jinxing my luck by posting this but I figured it was probably time to have a look inside. No issues at all, at 49XXkm, pulling 82-8300rpm. Here's what I found...

Everything seems to be in really good shape still, reeds have no flaking/chipping, I haven't measured the pistons yet to see how far out of spec they are but they look like they were happy. Compression was 108psi both holes at time of teardown so yeah, I have no complaints about reliability.

Glad to hear yours is holding up well! Mine is in the shop right now getting a full long block put in. Mine fouled a couple plugs, and started taking quite a few pulls to start (with throttle) but once running on both cylinders didn’t sound out of the ordinary and i didn’t notice any lose of power. Did a compression test and showed 120mag/45pto. Took it in for a tear down and found pto side bottom piston ring broke and destroyed the engine. Head, block, crank bearings and noticeable damage to crank. 2200km on it. Thank god for warranty

Has anyone successfully cut their snow flap?

Mine keeps getting sucked in the track, I normally have it tyraped up but I always have to cut those to put it on the track stand

When I say successfully I mean achieve decent cooling with it cut

The flap broke on this one second ride and it's been like this ever since.
Cooling is fine except on iced up trails. On those, it's a lot of pulling over and throwing snow at it.
