Axys 800 Reliability

I went to pick it up yesterday and got two different answers

1) (from the ownerof the dealer)the codes were too much brake and throttle and it was detonating, sometimes the ggb mtn cans cause this he said. He also said it should be okay after break in

2) I called the tech today that worked on it, he said the only code was brake/throttle and the can should not cause the sled to detonate or fall on its face

The sales guy and owner said they don’t add oil to these sleds as the sleds do that themselves in break in mode.

I plan to take her for a ride Saturday and recreate the problem, then take it back and leave it there until whatever electrical issue has been sorted.

Put the stock can back on and if it does it when you put the cab on next time you can attribute it possibly to the can.

Took it for a rip at my buddies ranch after work yesterday. Got it up to 8300rpm, no codes. If I jammed on it fast it would sort of fall on its face but I’m thinking that’s just an elevation issue?

I’m happy that I didn’t get any more codes

It also isn’t a wheelie monster like everyone says they are, it doesn’t seem to be of control for me either...perhaps I just need more seat time to experience the playfulness?

It sure is easy to ride though, I love how nice it turns

Falling on its face is most likely a quick over rev, change up the weights and that should disappear.

As I recall, the two weaknesses of the 800 Axys Pro generation:
-electrical relays fail, or the socket they plug into gets too dirty. Either way, bring spare relays and be prepared to swap them and clean the contacts. I never had this problem personally.
-exhaust temp sensor failure. Bring a spare. I had this problem, was able to limp sled home and buddy had a spare sensor in truck. Luckily I wasn't in an area that required full power to get back home.

From reading FB, in just the last week I've seen posts from Axys 800 owners with these specific item failures that make it very hard to get the sled back to the truck, much less ride the next day:
-exhaust temp sensor failure
-ski rubber

Agree with above.
once the exhaust sensor goes you’re pretty much fubar as it derates all power and can’t rev past 6700ish. Carry a spare sensor or at least carry a bypass for it.

Never heard of a bypass, does anyone know approximately how much resistance would be required to trick the ecm into thinking the pipe is hot?

8.2K 1/4 watt resistor.

I have quite a few left. It’s a inline resistor loop that takes place of the probe. Just unplug probe and plug this in.

Been reading a bunch on here and talked to a few guys on the hill about the 850s being terrible for fouling plugs during break in. Thought it was just an 850 issue, sure enough chit chatted a guy last time I was out and he was on his 3rd set of plugs in 85km on his new 800. Same day mine (700ish km) started spittering and sputtering a couple times on the bottom end and cleared up as the RPMs came up. Would have to think just break mode over fueling and oiling and ill swap em out when its done (17 hours at 5000+ rpm) ? Anyone else having problems with 800s fouling?
