i agree with you losing a dog isnt as big of a deal as losing a friend but if you have your dog trained for avy circumstances your dog could help ou find your friends.

but even then i think you would still feel bad if you found the dog first.

Here's a thought, lets say a slope ripped out and 3 of your friends are buried. Your dog also has a beacon. How bad would you feel if the first thing you dug out was your dog, and it cost your friends lives?

I mean, I love my dog, but if I were given the choice....

For the record, my dog LOVES ski touring. We race to the top (she wins) then we have a break, then we race to the bottom (I win). In the end, she never makes it more than ten minutes in the truck at the end of the day before she is fast asleep.

that is pretty sweet having your dog with ya,,, so how much pow can the dog take,,, I assume to deep NO go??

the dog in that video was having so much fun running downhill getting face shots thats was great,,,, not the slide but the rest

Seen this video before. It is by far the best instructional video on what not to do if you want to stay out of an avalanche. They confirmed that the hill was unsafe with the first slide. Then they all parked in the runout area. Then not one but two clowns climb right next to the first slide bringing the rest of the hill down on everyone.Hope no one was hurt but these guys definately need to take some training.

She can pound through some pretty deep snow, needs to be dry though, if its wet and heavy shes not as into it. If its super blower out, or unstable, she stays home

One guy died in this one. It was one of the two that you see blasting up the slope in the background, one behind the other. They of course triggered the second slide and one of them did not make it. Like you say you wonder what they were thinking, slope has already popped once low down, a bunch of people are sitting in the run out zone of a potential slide coming from higher up and then then not just one but two of them together take a run at this unstable slope with people in the run out zone. I would be willing to bet neither one of those two had ever taken an Avy Course. This video makes a strong argument as to why everyone that rides in the backcountry should take at least a Level 1 Avy course.

FYI this video is about 7 years old too. back in those days a small percentage of riders had avy training.
