Man the comments! People so worried about their taxes over people lives. Whola fawk.

There are nut cases out there that think were better off dead. Might as well sit at home and watch the news and drink coffee!

"There's different types of brain mentality for sledders,"
He sounds like Ricky from Trailer Park Boys. Remember people the media is going to sensationalize these things for all they're worth so in the future just refuse an interview or no comment because it seems the majority of people being interviewed just make us look like stupid uneducated yahoo's.

I read this yesterday as well and had thought about posting a similar thread!

I cannot understand what the media and these people commenting are thinking. There seems to be a very large difference between how the media and these idiots view the snowmobile community versus how they view and report on people back country skiing, hiking, biking, etc...

Yesterday there was a group of hikers missing west of Cochrane and people were basically calling for all resources to be used to find them, this includes media reports on these poor hikers and how great it was that they were found uninjured. Don't get me wrong, i am happy that they were found as well but if that was a group of sledders the media would be reporting on reckless snowmobilers being lost and how they should have to pay search and rescue fees. The same type of thing happens if a skier is lost in an avalanche versus how this tragic incident was reported.

Makes me sick where our society is heading and makes me fear for the future of our sport.

That is exactly how they would have made the snowmobilers out!

"Rock Major, from Saskatoon, said he wasn't influenced by the fatalities because "I'm smarter than those guys." whoever this loser is im embarrased to be from the same province. You would think a guy could come up with something that didnt make sledders look like idiots

I can't even read these articles anymore, because once I get to the comments sections, I just wanna smash the phuck out of these people's faces!!

What is wrong with humans these days? Saying these men DESERVED to die? Anyone that makes a comment like that deserves to have the absolute chit kicked out of them. SOOOO angry!!!

We were in an avy and lost a dear friend. We said nothing to the media so they made a story. Saying we all had turbo sleds. Could access areas mortals couldn't reach. The only good and true thing they said was we did CPR for hours and wouldn't give up on our friend. I just re-read the article after 7 years and they made us sound like idiots too. The media is brutal on or sport.

In case your wondering if sledders get a bad rap. 50-78 people drown every year in BC. No talk of that in the media.
Yes, also just as many search and rescue in b.c in summer as winter ( hiking and what not)

The media is supposed to be unbiased and report the facts

Hasn't been that way for decades. The media is no place for facts. I quit talking to them on land use issues after the very first time they mis-quoted me. Nothing to be gained from talking to the media in our sport.

Most of the comments made here......need to be made over there below that article. Only way to be heard without being mis-quoted. On this site we're just preaching to the choir.

I fired back at a couple of the comments on the CBC using my real name but they closed the comments for both articles. Few if any of the critical azzhats use their real name it always some stupid handle like "earths watchdog" or "tex78"

Yes its terrible to hear about the loss of life doing the sport we love but this was caused by one of our own by high marking on a unsafe area and some people got killed in the process. This is where education is important in our sport but the people should pay attention if theirs not a mark on a hill theirs a reason for this so it comes down to lack of experience for the group who high marking in a avalanche area.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!!! Where did you hear anything about high marking? That is 100% false!! Maybe you got your info from the media as well.

Wow!!! Thanks for bringing some humor to this terrible thread. I've been fuming, but your very last "word" made me burst out laughing. Thanks for that Bogs. :D

The biggest thing us sledders need to do during an Interview is to watch what we say and how we say it. Promote safety, promote our unification as a family, promote our sport as best as possible. If you can not do that during an interview, then its best to walk away and say no comment. Just my 2 cents.

Unfortunately the mediots are turning this into the flavor of the month of things to bash. Most already coming to their own conclusions before anything that is substantiated actually gets published. Unfortunately by the time it does it will be forgotten and not reported on.
