I'm looking for information on avalanche gear particularly beacons and bags but anything else would be considered. I'm just getting into mountain sledding and want to be prepared. I have been looking at Snowpulse bags and seem to be most interested in these. What is the best beacon to buy and what to look for? I need something with ease of use.

Shovels and probes to ! I got a Element beacon and it's simple and easy to use. Don't cheap out on your gear but bye the sounds of it you have no problem buying the equipment. And an AST1 course would be highly recommended !

i would book into a ast 1 course before buying an airbag ( i bought the abs airbag because it seems to fit me the best )
i have the mammut element barryvox tranciever and i am very happy with it. its easy to use and has one of the longer ranges available
all the major brands are good Peips, bca, barryovox just be sure to get a digital beacon and practice using it

all the new beacons are easy to use if you practice with them.

i took a few BCA beacons to a cub scout night and had the kids finding treasure within 1\2 hr of using them.

taking an ast course is great, using the knowledge gained is critical.

Zacs tracks offers a course called the
Indoor Rescue Workshop, with this you will learn the differences between the equipment. You will have some hands on and a lot of people will make there decisions from there. For Beacons, Probes and even what shovels work better and why.
This is a workshop and not the avalanche course. I highly recommend taking an avalanche course and both together is best.

X3 on the Avi course. I have taken a few and Lori from Zac's is the best i have seen. Her quick witty humor helps to liven things up and her vast knowledge of what she is teaching is unbeatable. And she is also very good keeping her class on topic when guys try shifting the attention towards them instead of the learning. She also has a very unbiased and informative opinion on avy gear. Definitely worth the small cost of the course. I'm going back to the AST 1 course again this year to get my two boys and a buddy into it. Doesn't hurt me for a refresher either

After taking the AST1 classroom today I will be in the next rescue workshop and wish i'd of taken it yesterday as Laurie goes over what gear is the best to have... I'm in similar shoes, bought some of the gear at the sled show and after seeing the probes she recommends I wish i'd of waited as mine will waste valuable time in a search scenerio. You can check Zac's store, they only carry products they rely on.
