Anyone running gates or dayco belts on an xm?

With the ski-doo belts over $200 for an xm 800etec, i can get gates and dayco belts.... I need a new belt.

Anyone running these belts? Or y'all running ski-doo belts?

Few guys I ride with use the Carbon Gates belts... no issues and I think they are half the price of the OEM

you haven't even moved it yet and you already toasted a belt? you're in for a long winter Mr Ric ;)

I'm not hard on belts and the OEM belts last for thousands of km. The 2014 still has the stock belt as does the 2015. Don't know how many km on the 2014 as the gauge cluster got a little wet and quit performing but I'm guessing there is close to 6000 and the 2015 has 4450km.

But then again, I'm 160# and don't doo those hard WOT climbs that are belt killers.

randy torched a belt and is running a worn spare... The spare he has in it is a rev belt.... Feel better with a new belt ;)

I buy a spare belt with each sled when the two belts are worn out the sled goes for sale!

Sorry Ric, butthe belt in it is still good for a while although good plan on getting a new one.
Sled got 2000km a bet, dam good for me.
I always us the doo bets.

thanks, randy.... Gonna try the gates carbon belt.... Half the price, and i used them on the 1000rt and never had belt troubles

I learned from the past that you should always use OEM.

When those aftermarket belts go, they totally disintegrate with usually no warning, which is very hard on your crank.
At least when a doo belt goes, there are warning signs.

My spares have always been dayco. Dayco/goodyear makes belts for Cat. So $135 for dayco xtx5046 or $220 cat 084. Same belt

Ditto. I don't know who makes BRP's belts but for the price and peace of mind I'll stick to OEM. Doo seems to have their clutching and belts figured out if lots of guys can get several thousand kms out of the stock belt.

You spend 17,000 on a sled 200 for a oem belt is only 70 bucks more geez.

Lots of people spend $60,000-$80,000 on a truck and don't get the matching spare tire just in case they someday need it. A new belt on a new sled can easily last a few thousand km's and not have a loss in performance. In some situations sometimes it just doesn't make sense to have a $200 belt sitting there waiting to be used. Keep a cheaper spare on the sled if ever needed. When comes time to replace put the OEM on.

Yup exactly. Weathering and aging for no reason.

A person shouldn't really have a brand new spare belt, but a good used belt. If there is a new spare in the holder than throw it on heading down the mtn to break it in and keep it on.
How many actually measure there belt and see if its still in spec even tho the belt "looks" in great shape.

I didn't say it wasn't broken in.

Can you post the "spec" tolerance table for me. That way everyone who wants to know will know when their belt isn't within spec.

Never had any luck with any belt besides OEM on Doo. Gates carbon C12 seems ok on the cat .

As I mentioned earlier, the BRP belts are awesome. I wouldn't want to be back in some nasty hole and blow a belt and have to rely on a suspect spare belt to get out and home. When you gotta have the flipper to the bar to get up through the trees and back home, the belt and the spare belt better be able to handle the test!

How do those guys that blow a belt every day do it? Like do they have any peace of mind way off the beaten path and 3-4 mountain ranges over?

Unfortunately guys don't think about this and this should be the most important factor when choosing a belt. The harder belts that are designed for extreme service are sometimes worse than the cheaper softer belts when it comes to exploding. Also they are more likely to groove out the sheaves.
