I've been tossing around the idea of getting my daughter one.
However I dont know a lot about them.
They say maximum weight capacity 44lbs
And good from 18 - 36 months old

My kid is 32 months old now and dam near 60lbs

My questions for those that have them. How well do they work outdoors on grass dirt and gravel with heavier kid on them?

Or should I just wait and get her a bigger one in a couple of years?

Get a 12v one with 2 speed. Then throw in your 18v Power tool battery. Way better Regularly have 2-3 kids in the gator. Hard on 30amp fuses with 3. But better than frying it. I do have the big fuse holder just haven’t put it inline

Find a 50cc quad, dial the throttle back. As she gets older turn the throttle back up

the 6 volt needs to be "12 volted" but any more and its out of control and torque steers bad...

the 6 volt quad battery is little, the car one fits in the hole and lasts a lot longer.

the cars aren't good on grass

Anything less than 12v is a waste imo

Our Jd 12v tractor has zero tread left on the wheels. I had 2 6v quad and bike thing. Junk really. Only works in house or sidewalk. I was constantly lifting him off grass back to sidewalk.

I got a 12v for my son when he was 2 and ~50lbs, and he used for two years. Worked half decent outside. Decent stepping stone to a 90cc China quad, and a PW80 when he was 7. Still have both, but will likely need a new bike next year. Kids don't stop growing...

How’s it working? Son #2 turns 3 this week might have to grab him one

So far so good. She hasn't figured out how to steer yet.
Low speed is pretty much walking speed. So I'll walk along side her steering it as needed.
We have a steepish hill in our yard. Handles going down there really well. Needs to be in high speed for her to drive it up.
That's a brisk jog for me to keep up once shes over the top of the hill. Lol.

I'm glad I got it for her.

Adhesive stair tread tape helps on tires, modded a barbie jeep in my day...

I studded the tires when my kids had one years ago, makes all the difference in grass. Just a hand full of hex head screws

I really wanted to do that but then realized it would be a bad deal when my one kid tries to run down the other on foot.

for the plastic wheels what I did for my grandson went to the golf course and got some old golf cart tires cut the outer edges off and slipped the centre on the plastic tire warm the rubber in the bbq and put a few wood or sheet metal screws in to keep it from sliding off he ran it on gravel and grass even took it out in the winter most of the old tires have a little tread left on them

Shes starting to actually use it last summer she only used it a handful of times. Today she killed the battery. From full charge. Trying to teach her how to steer. She thinks its funny to run into stuff.

Our 3rd kid has both a 6V quad that the grandparents bought him and a 12V Powerwheels dune buggy. The 6V is okay - but we let him drive it around the basement. The Dune Buggy has held up remarkably well. It's on it's 3rd kid and 3rd battery. For a battery, I bought a larger 14 amp hour 12V battery for $45 and rewired the plug back into it. GOes all day on a single battery now vs the 9 amp hour one that is a $90 Power Wheels battery.

For traction, I used some small tire tubes and sliced them half way and slipped them over the tires. Spins alot less and isn't so grippy that the powertrain in the thing gets beat up. My 90lbs 8 year old as well as his 60lbs brother and their friends have all piled on this thing and it still moved with them on it....

It was a good investment years back. Between finding compounding coupon codes and flash sales, I bought it from Sears for a grand total of $145~ No wonder Sears is no longer around....
