I think most older riders started on trikes, or riders on a budget. I always liked and respected them for what they were. But I'm also from the prairies, maybe they would be a lot worse in the hills.

I'm pretty sure most riders around the age of 40 and older have spent many hours on a trike as well. They do demand more respect from, but with that said, all riders need to respect what they ride and ride within their skill level and ride a machine suited to their skill level. I am nowhere near a great rider, but for some strange reason, I've never had a wreck on 3 wheels. Probably has something to do with my respect for them. 2 wheels and 4 wheels is a different story however lol.

New project. 1986 ATC Big Red plastic restore. Sun baked plastics all the way from Arizona.

Progress so far with lots of scraping and wet sanding.

Just picked another new trike. 1986 Yamaha YTM 225 DR. Pretty sure this one is low hour all original still other than the rear tires and hand grips. Still needs a little work, but not much.

About the only bad part on it I can see is this one crack in the rear fender.

And I believe this is the original oem front tire still

I picked this beauty up last fall. It was in very good condition. By the time I got it running good and did a few mods it was to cold out side to open it up. I did top out in 3rd and my oh my those things are fast. Just started working on my 84. It's not in as good condition so it's getting disassembled and powder costed.

How did you make out on the plastic restore? I have tried a few different techniques no fantastic results though.

These particular plastics were from Arizona and heavily sun baked. To clean them up
I used a razor blade to scratch all the oxidization off and get to good plastic again. Just have to be careful you don't inadvertently gouge them doing it. Once that is done I wet sand them starting with coarse grit paper and work my way to a finer one. Some guys go as far as a 2000 grit paper. Not me. I'm happy with up to 800. That gets rid of any imperfections and light scratches. They will still be a bit dull then, so I take buffing wheel and a polishing compound and buff them to a shine. It's lots of labour, but worth it when oem plastics can't be bought anymore.

Very nice. I have an 82 that I've been acquiring parts and pieces to rebuild. It has a long way to go yet.

Nice I also have a 82 that's missing a few pieces and a complete 84 that's next on the list.

The 84 is getting a full restoration next month. I'm also kinda looking for a 3rd gen to complete the collection.

Wouldn't everyone like to have a 3rd gen liquid R lol. It's in my list as well. I'd like to have all 3 personally. I'd be interested in taking that 82 off your hands if you're interested in parting with it.

Are you in any of the trike pages on Facebook? There's a few Canada orientated ones. Canada Alberta trikes, Three Wheeler Union and Trike Nation. All AB, SK an BC pages.

I gave the 82 to my friend trading him for some paint work. I do have a lead on first gen parts tho pm me a list of what u need and I'll ask him when I get the parts for buddies 82. I missed out last fall on a 85 that was in Lloyd guy wanted $1800.

That's a good deal for sure!
I sold my clean 85 about 2 years ago for $3500.

We had a 225 DX growing up. It would catwalk for miles! I think the dr is the same machine just has reverse.

I've thought they are kinda cool. I don't know much about one but if I ever find one super cheap I might get it.

Yep they are the same. DR has reverse DX doesn't. All Yamaha trikes are wheelie machines. Just they way they're balanced. This is my 85 DX

Don't let people tell you they're a death machine. Just needs to be respected like any other toy really. If your mechanically inclined, one can usually pick up a decent runner for $500. Cheaper if they don't run. Sometimes it's just a dirty ass carb.
