Any Ideas? (Looking to Buy)

I am requesting the help of the S&M Crew.

I currently have a 700 Yamaha Venture which is killing me. Its far too heavy, and much too powerful. Therefor, I am looking to find something different.

I'm currently looking for something around a 500-600, newer than 2003, light, under $6000.00, and preferably a 4 stroke to minimize the smell of Gasoline! (At least I think four strokes don't smell as bad)

Any ideas? (Brand Doesn't Really Matter!)

If it's any consolation I am 17 years old, 6'1 and 185 pounds.

If you have any suggestions, ideas, or comments feel free to drop a line in the thread.

I have a Z120 for sale... a few mods, runs about 19 mph flat out and weighs about 165 lbs full of fuel and oil.

I'm thinkin at 6'1" & 185 pounds you were made for this sled!

Just kidding of course... have you considered a hybrid sled? A crossfire, switchback or renegade? They almost all come in a 500 or 600 cc flavour, you can get the 1000 as well?

Peace River Area. I usually just ride the local Hills, fields, and ditches. There is no trail system around here, and basically you can just ride where ever as long as it's not somebodys property.

Well, I wouldn't say it's too much power. I have never really opened up the 700 to see what It could really do. Primarly because it's a two up seating sled, it's big, heavy and sucks in the fresh powder! It's really only good for riding groomed trails (which we don't have here in Peace River).

Ohh, well, i'm kind of guessing you don't have a serious thirst for speed? lol....two up sleds are always heavy beasts...and if you ride a bit of powder, a 136" track is probably a good thing to look at.

No, I don't really have a thirst for speed. I am just looking for something fun, and light.

Yeah, the two up really isn't doing it for me any more. Back when we lived in St. Albert it was all good because we could head out to the Groomed Trails and the Sleds worked well out there. But up here without the groomed trails, it's really becoming a problem to go out and have fun on the sleds without getting stuck in the power.

so, after looking at the Crossfire it looks like a great sled. Although it's a two stroke does it still make that horrible Gasoline smell? Bleh, I hate that smell! LOL

Well I may have a 03 600 mountain cat for sale after this weekend.It is in mint shape with a new camo track,some clutch work done to it and a NPP can on it.New sliders ,new hand warmers,highrise seat.Just completly serviced.All this done to it and I still havnt even rode it yet this year.Taking it with us tommoro to Vale but not sure I will get a chance to ride it.It is dialed in and rocks for a 600.If interested pm me.
This is my wifes sled so it has not been abused!

For around $6,000 can I make a couple of suggestions? One of last year's Phazer Mtx's may do. I just bought one used for $6,000 and got a 2 year extended warranty for $519. Fun boondocker sleds and you are just the right size for one of them. The one I bought had 700kms and was just like new. Some guys bought them and just hated them - so you can find some deals. It will be wayyyyy different riding than your Venture. If you ride racing quads or dirt bikes you will be comfortable on one

Another machine would be a Skidoo Renegade or Summit SDI. The 600SDI's are absolutely bomb proof motors, and are much easier on fuel than the 800's. In your kind of riding - you could likely not tell the difference. Plus they have way less of the "2 stroke smell". There are way more Renegades than Summits in the 600SDI. Rene St. Onge has a 600SDI Summit with a 144 skid and it is a sweetheart of a machine. Our girls (11 yrs old) have used i on occaision - but I have seen Rene pull some unreal climbs with it. I had one that I traded to a friend for an 800Rev, and regretted it since (they both got stolen but that is another story!). The 600 Summit does have the mountain skid and the front end is 2" narrower than the Renegade

I have a 2001 yammie mnt max 700 that has just come up for sale as of this weekend. It is ride ready and brought it to Blue River as a backup sled just in case. SLP pipes, vari-flow, extra vert drivers, 2" riser block, reed spacers, 141" track and has 5500 km's on it. Sled is clean and in good shape. $5000 obo.

If you want something light for under $6000 I would stick with a 2 stroke, the only 4 strokes you'll get for under 6K would ne a phazer, which is a good sled but under powered and I think you would be looking for something more powerful soon, the other is a used RX-1 or Vector and they definetly are not light.

I think you would be happy with a Renegade or Summit 600 SDI, great all around sleds. Also look at 600 RMK's, they are also good light sleds. If you not a hill climber also look for a MXZ 600. They are good cross country sleds. Crossfire's are great as well but I don't think you would find one under 6K.

You may even be happy with an F5 or F6. Just keep you eyes open.
