Stay away from Kona! The less people the better!!!

but for real, the big island is fantastic. We have been many many places but kona will always see my Canadian dollars!!

don’t over think it though, book a flight and go... any island.... it will be the first of many.

Thinking about doing Hawaii for the first time this winter. Any advice from people that have been. Priorities would be, the best beaches and the less people and shops the better.

Been to Oahu and Maui. Maui has way less people. Oahu is very busy. The island is beautiful and has unreal beaches but everywhere has traffic...always.

Maui was decent atmosphere, I’d go back for sure. Oahu was beautiful, but too damn busy. I’d try either of the other islands on my next trip. Really interested in Kauai....?! Where’s the place to go on that island?

I went to Oahu a few times as a kid so I'm pretty familiar with the place. I was nice to see it again and show my wife and son the stuff I loved as a kid. The tourists on Waikiki weren't intolerable in February, the Hilton was awesome. The Turtle Bay resort was also top notch but the g strings were few and far between lol. My trophy wife had some skin out and said "I thought you said all the girls wear thongs here?!" one day because she was sick of having the only buns out on the beach. We will go back, hopefully this spring.

My wife and I got tired of always stepping off to the side to let the young Japanese tourists dressed in designer clothes and carrying bags from the high end shops walking 4 abreast down the streets so we just started holding our ground and forcing them to fall in behind on their side of the walkways. The younger Japanese tourists are entitled. The older ones are very respectful still. There are literally thousands of Japanese tourists walking the streets at any given time of the day over there in Waikiki. Never even noticed them in Maui.

They call it the Divorce highway. Take a small shuttle bus and let someone else do the driving. Some hairy hairpin turns and blind corners and having a backseat driver doesn't usually go well. Lol

The wife and I went for a drive up to Lahaina and I decided we would keep going ........Rode got tight and single lane only . Had to back down to let others pass . Road to Hanna was a breeze after that one

anyone done the KOKO crater steps? or the natural bridge? we did the pillbox hike and the blowhole/sea caves. there's soo much to do, a guy can be busy every day.

In Maui the Bamboo forest is pretty nice at seven sisters pools, but you have to get there in time and the Hana highway sucks. The back way is not bad though. But you should allow at least 2 hrs for the hike if not longer.

I've driven that road numerous times, it's a fun drive but you have to drive at a reasonable speed. The first time we drove it my wife came pretty close to getting motion sickness, luckily I stopped in time for her to recover. We've also driven the entire highway all the way around the island, I don't reccomend it as there are no services on the backside of the island.

As for finding a place to stay in Hawaii, I always use VRBO and in fact, will be using it again in a month or 2 for our next visit in Feb.

Ya i hear a few get it by sharks every year, not to published thou, hoping to go back for a couple weeks next year, February was a good month.

That would be my guess, tiger sharks are pretty prevalent in Hawaiian waters. I've snorkeled pretty far off shore in the past off the coast of Maui, I may be rethinking that move after reading about that attack.

I have done the koko steps. Pretty cool experience. It’s showed me how out of shape I was.
