VANCOUVER - Police in the eastern British Columbia community of Golden say a backcountry skier from the U.S. has been killed in an avalanche.
RCMP Sgt. Troy Durand says an American ski party was caught in an avalanche in Molars Bowl, which is west of Golden, on Friday afternoon.
He says one person was buried and was dug out by ski-party members who began CPR.
Durand says search and rescue officials arrived at the scene by helicopter and took the skier to hospital, but the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
He says police will not release the skier's name until next of kin have been notified.
The death is the fourth backcountry skier fatality in B.C. this season.
