Last year we switched our entire fleet over to Toyo CTS. Multiple drivers on these trucks and all the guys really like this tire. We ran Duratracs, Cooper STT and Maxx, KO2 garbage, and lots of others. The CTS works the best all year round in a wide variety of conditions. Mud, sand, gravel, snow/ice etc. Really happy with the performance.

had made up my mind to throw duratracs on the duramax again but really hating the price with the stupid factory 20"rim(Got 70000k on this set) . Gonna start looking again. Run them year round as I cant afford 2 set of tires currently.

Be careful buying tires from crappy tire a lot of their products they will get the manufacture to make items of less quality. Still branded as a dewalt or Goodyear but made extra cheap so they can sell them extra cheap. Make sure the tires are made in the same factory/ country as ones that are sold at your local reputable tire shop.

I have seen people post this before and I have to question the legitimacy of that claim. Having not done any other research on it, why would a manufacturer make something sub-par, sacrificing its reliability and performance? CanadianTire sells a lot of tires, just like Costco, purchasing in large volumes would likely be a larger reason for being able to sell something cheaper than the guy who owns two tire shops. I have yet to see a cheap or expensive Duratrac last any longer than the next.

I have heard that manufacturers send the best batches (of tires) to dedicated dealers such as kal, fountain etc. Tires that barely pass QC go to places like ctire. And that is why some tires need a lot of lead to balance, others very little.

I’ve had good tires from crappy tire and $hit tires from Kal. There is no rhyme or reason to why some are good and some aren’t. Kinda like ammo. Some batches are just better than others. A Goodyear is a Goodyear no matter where you buy them providing the ratings are the same.

The ones that don’t make the cut are sold as an off brand. Such as the Muteki as compared to the Duratrac. They both make an identical looking tire but the quality and wear life are different.

As for tires it would be hard to figure that out. I know crappy tire does get Goodyear to make tires that only they can sell. Had some on a truck I bought last year. I asked a friend who runs a tire shop to price me out a new one as one had some really bizarre wear. His response was u have to go to crappy tire to get those crappy Goodyear’s. As for tools that’s super easy to see the difference take a dewalt drill from homedepot or aklands it will have a high amp motor and all steel chuck. The dewalt drill sold at c tire will be a few amps less and have a plastic/steel chuck. the kitchen aid mixers are also a lower wattage motor than mixers sold at the bay

This is true and untrue at the same time. What you have to watch for is the branding. If Goodyear, Michelin or a company like Dewalt makes a product specifically for Canadian Tire at a reduced price, it will be branded differently. A different model number, part number, there will be a difference. The item may appear to be "the same" at first glance but upon closer inspection you will see the changes.

So no, Canadian Tire does not sell a Duratrac with lesser quality than Fountain Tire, but they will sell another Goodyear product which looks quite similar but is labeled differenty. A good example is the Motormaster brand of tires, Canadian Tire does not manufacture tires, they have their own brand name but the tires could have been built at any tire factory in the world, Goodyear, Michelin, Bridgestone or some Chinese sweat shop. That Motomaster tire may look very similar to a Goodyear, but the quality, tread compounding most likely is of a far less standard.

I won't run anything but studded Cooper discovery winters. Best tire for ice and deep snow imo hands down

Are these the Cooper Discoverer M+S you are talking about?
Or is it a different Cooper model?

I run the Coopers in the picture on my Yukon, have the Firestone Winterforce on the wife’s Yukon, Winterforce are better IMO

Like getting factory tires to last as long as a second set, there are definitely different quality same brand tires out there.

Kind of kicking myself now for not getting the dealership to giving me some better winter tires 4months ago when I bought the truck though.

They look nice and work good in the mud but are totally useless on ice.

Ya I have the nitto trail grapplers and they suck on compact bigtime. Was gonna go studded duratracs this winter but picked up set of cooper discoverers instead.
Shouldn't have to chain up as much I hope.

I was planning to replace my Toyo MT’s with a set of Duratrac’s next month because I’ll be pulling an enclosed most of the season. Instead of using the sled deck as much. Personally I’m not a big fan of Goodyear. Can anyone speak to the Nitto Ridge Grapplers on snow and ice?
