Having known Jason and the family as well as I did, I can honestly tell you this could not have happened to a nicer kid. It's truely been a sad few days here in Smithers.
My condolances go out to the family and the many friends Jason leaves behind.
I just want to update you guys on what has been happening up here. Jasons death has sent shock wave thru our sleepy little town. People that thought that it would never happen to them have come to the realization that it can. The Smithers Snowmobile Ass. and the Bulkley Backcountry ski society together put on an avalanche awareness day 5 days after this tragic accident, and the turnout was incredible.... over 100 people attended. Now I know this does not replace an avalanche course but it is a start.... a course is going to be offered later this spring.
Jasons death has changed our community forever.....
