since it seems "being on the other side of the sign" or "just riding into park since there were so many other tracks", heres what you could see from the RCMP as they are looking to charge at full extent. as well the snow and mud event this weekend

up to $25,000 fine
impound fees
sled recovery fees
If required, heli flight fee with there 10% commission
If required, search and rescue fee

people ride past that sign as 10-12years ago it was placed way further towards the trees.

My info might not be correct, but someone that was in Golden at the time said 2K eack plus 10K to heli sleds out.

As I said this is from someone that was in Golden at the time not anyone that knew anyone in the group. Im only putting this out there because that is enough to scare me to say out of the park !

A friend of mine was apart of this group. he claims they were only 60 feet into the park. and with him saying that it shows that they knew where they were going. he said 2200$ per hour to get the sleds taken out by helicopter. plus all the other fines they have coming their way. as much as he is a friend i hope they make an example out of them.

At quartz, if u go right from the cabin towards area 51 and the poo stain, there's is a notch u can park at the top of, with if I recall 3 signs

If u drop down ( which I had two buddies years ago drop, I stayed at the top cause I knew better, and it was my first mountain ride so didn't even feel comfortable with the way it looked) it's a big drainage ect, but where u drop there's a huge wind drift, and could only imagine if snow was deep enough u would not make it out

Only a guess tho

Your discription sounds like this to me..
Dropping off a wind loaded lip. On a slope they couldn't pull? 40+deg I'd say, with all four piled up at the bottom.in a drainage...... They should concider them selfs lucky that there here and we can fine them and tell them how stupid they are...

Historically the signs have been moved farther and farther from the actual "park" edge in certain areas. Now, I don't know the exact GPS coordinates of every single park boundary, however in cabin valley on the west face they apparently used to be directly at the bottom of the hill, now they are about 200 ft + in lots of areas. Saying that however, I do not condone anyone riding past the signs if they are visible. And I've been in Quartz and reprimanded people for intentionally riding right past the sign and highmarking that hill (and I know they saw it becuz I went over and banged on it and they watched me).

So if the signs have been moved in areas, its conceivable that you could ride around the sign (like Rick) and still not be in the true "park" boundary. According to one of the guys who was there, they were about 200 feet into the park. 200 ft is not very far, I've seen tracks above poo stain that are WAYYYYYYY farther into the bowl than that.

Again, I do not condone this in any way. According to the guys that were there, there were no park signs in the area they were sledding (I have also seen this personally as many areas up there do not have signage). I agree wholeheartedly that people should know where they are riding and I don't see the need to ride right up to the boundary, signed or not.

These guys have manned up though, and openly and publicly admitted fault, and are taking their lumps and using it to teach others what not to do, so good on them. They fawked up but they are owning it, which is far more than lots of people do. They've posted comments as to their ommission of guilt on globals news thread, and in doing so, have taken a lot of unjust and public criticism from an amazing # of keyboard jockeys, and so I respect them for that, they could have easily just kept quiet.
