About time. Makes me scratch my head that its a law in a lot of municipalities to wear a helmet on a bicycle even for adults in some places yet the province thinks we don't need helmets on ATVs. Makes no sense to me.

More government is an on-going problem but in this instance it is a no brainer!

Why, with all the other things that get the government's panties in a knot, is this taking so long......:noidea:

There will be a decrease in organ donators. Agreed should have been in place long time ago

It's a good idea! When I rode a quad I always drove with my helmet all the time. Now with my sxs I admit that I don't wear it. I guess the role cage gives me that false since of security! I think they should place that law so I would be forced into wearing it.

I find it funny that it's not law, but use a sxs or atv for work and it's law by OHnS. $300 fine if i get caught without my helmet on a quad at work.

Friend that is an area director on the aohva said the hold up before on the helmet law was due to forestry and sisemec workers not wearing helmets as they were required to wear hard hats By ohs and company saftey programs

Well a helmet is better protection than any hard hat, they can just carry that on the machine and put the hard hat on when not using the quad.

Really shouldn't need the government to spend a bunch of money examining this sort of thing.

People are either smart enough to protect themselves or not.

Except for our tax dollars looking after the victim who hits his head and spends the rest of his days burdening our health care system.

Just duct tape those hard hats on. Problem solved.

i will admitt when hunting i don't wear my helmet... but don't forget im the guy on here defending Honda cause my style of hunting riding is 2nd gear on the fm and very little gas... when im out fun riding with my boy on the grizzly i wear the damb thing... don't need the gov't to tell me when i need it.... and by the way i've seen quads and sxs just plain take off on cops and cops can't do anything about it... so what's the purpose? Have you seen a res in northern alberta yet... 4 people on a quad no helmets... scary but they won't stop and probably just get hurt taking off on the cops everytime they see one know... just my opinion...

in the case of seatbelts you have insurance compainies reducing payments if people don't wear seatbelts but in the case of helmets no insurance compainies pay out so no real deterant... the study is waste of time...

just go to cops ask them to compile stats of atv accidents and see how many had helmets vs not and injury rate... a quick chk on their computers would have your study done in 1/2 and hour... but the law???? I really don't see a need for another law... only guys who are gonna stop to get the ticket are good guys putting along anyhow...

oh and you side by side people go really fast wear your helmet a young lady was killed up here two years ago in a sxs... she was the driver no helmet...

its really a no brainer wear the helmet even in side x side lots of metal bars to knock your head off of
also most cages on the sxs are not rated as a roll cage ( at one point only the terex was )

I promise you a rzr roll cage is way stronger than you think if it wasn't rated it's only because they didn't bother getting it tested. We have towed quads out of the bush through creeks and muskeg with the front tires off and the quad tied to the roll cage, sheared winch bolts without so much as bending that roll cage. Blew my mind how tough they are.
