didn't govt jobs increase like, 12,000 more employees under Notley's NDP?
Hahaha nope.
Was more than that per year on average.
Wow
Where did I suggest what your replied to.
The mojority of what is controlled by the AUPE can easily be contracted out to standards set by the gornament.
This eliminates user fees.
Universal medical care should never be completely disband and private clinics are already here.
I paid $600 and had my cancer biopsies done in two weeks instead of the 6 month wait I was booked in for.
The gross waste and inneficiences are not that hard to fix with moderation.
AUPE members seem to have a feeling it is their right to be catered to and paid for by the rest of the province and the provinces revenue with zero accountability or else they strike and make demands while witholding partial essentials services.
Something contracted workforce can not do once the contract is set.
The biggest issue to fix is the attitudes out there that some people are more special than others.
The spending problem needs to be correct and a 2:5 ratio of public servants is not sustainable as previously discibbed.
Just have to realize where money comes from and that is new money to distribute through the economy.
This can and only does come from private sector and sales revenue.
The govt does not supply squat, they collect and redistribute.
This includes ALL govt employees.
Just remember that before a govt employee pays taxes they must be paid first. (Govt employee taxes are from money the govt already had - only the private sector and revenue from all types of resources can put new money in the pot/economy).
Govt employees and govt projects only recirculated what was already there, they create zero new dollars for that circulation to continue - remember that.
Where do people think that money came from FFS.
The 3 of 5 can not support the 2 of 5. Sorry but the math just does not allow it.
The first step is to understand where money to support the economy comes from and it sure as hell is not from any type or level of government.
The trick is to provide actual need services and not fluff programs and the most economical means to supply those services.
To this end serious change is needed.
Well Firefighters are under the IAFF not AUPE.
And Teachers are under the ATA.
And now you bring up nurses, in which RNs are under ANA. Many other healthcare workers run under the HSAA.
So what workers under the AUPE would you like to privatize?
You said that Teachers, Firefighters and Maintenance Workers should be targets first. I assume you mean targeted first on you privatization list. How do you privatize Teachers and Firefighters? Can you tell me how many private Fire Services are in AB?
Privatizing a fire service has only been tried once in North America and it was a disaster. The 3 year contract was terminated after 18 months and never tried again.
government by its nature is inefficient, the biggest problem being bureaucrats that have never done and don’t understand the front line work that they oversee, resulting in money going to build the bureaucracy instead of operating the front line. This is what you all see and what frustrates you. The front line people typically aren’t any better paid than the private sector, and pay for at least half their pension and benefits.
Any reviews of government services should be undertaken by outside auditors who would quickly see that the bloat is in the many levels of management, not the front line workers that provide the services. I see it every day. A decision that would take 10 minutes to make in the private sector takes weeks in government because there’s multiple levels of management that must be involved. So when you complain about the government, be aware that it’s not the front line people that you interact with that are the biggest part of the waste and inefficiency.
Health care is the province’s largest expense, making up 43 per cent of total operating costs. With Budget 2019, the province is increasing the health-care budget by $200 million, bringing overall operating spending to $20.6 billion per year.
43% of the budget goes to our ****ty health care system. With 43% of my tax money back I could pay for some really good health care I think.
Id be 100% fine with ditching the universal healthcare. You get terrible service, and costs it way too much.
Dan I agree that our healthcare could get A Lot better. Case in point. I bailed on Alberta Healthcare two years ago and got a new hip and looks like I’m going to need a new one on the other side soon and I’m going to bail again.
What real bugs me is that when Ralph Klein tried to implement a policy that would allow our doctors to use publicly own facilities (operating rooms) to do for profit (paid for by the patient) surgery’s. The opposition (David Swan) screamed it was two tear healthy care and Klein had to back down. If I could pay a Alberta surgeon to do my hip after hours in one of the Dozens of unused ORs in Calgary I’ll pay for it all. The cost of travel with an assistant (my wife) cost as much as my surgery. I know that wait lines would shrink if folks could pay a reasonable cost to get immediate help.
The fact remains our universal healthcare cost way less than the American system if you look at the bureaucratic nightmare of the for profit insurance funded system. Our system also looks after disadvantaged families. (My out of work friends)
When socialists with horrible spending habits such as Iverson and Nenshi are nearly crying, you know you are on the right track with the budget.Watched Edmonton global news coverage of the budget was actually humorous imo to watch, Iveson was as stated almost crying... coverage made it sound like alberta was about to implode from the cuts, media is pathetic.
