Anyone know where I can get both drivers side and passenger side air bags for a 2005 Pontiac G6 GT. :(
Oh looks like the seat belt mechanism is screwed too.
Will they try and write this car off since both bags were deployed? I'm reading horror stories on the internet....

If the airbags were deployed the frame will be tweaked as well.

The car doesn't look like it has a scratch on it. No crinkles, nothing. Maybe the foam under the plastic is compressed but the car looks mint other than the air bags and I just noticed both seat belts in the front are locked, wont retracted.
I can't believe the bags deployed.....
I just looked up the Black Book value, $6,675 low and $8,725 high. If the air bags are expensive I'm so screwed.

It will be headed to a local pick and pull near you. Throw away car essentially. I would not get your hopes up on it.

are you looking to buy this threw an auction? impact auto? or just from the impound yards?

as far as writing the car off due to both bags gone off, no it is not a for sure thing. it is left up to the adjuster to decide if it can be rebuilt or parts only. also the computer tablet they carry around with them adds up the costs of repairs and once the it comes to a certain cost it automatically will notify the adjuster to stop the estimate, as the cost of repairs is greater then the payout option.

now this dose not always mean it will cost that much to fix, i have built multiple cars/trucks from icbc that were salvage title with very little work.

mustangs have very sensitive airbag sensors, i have seen them fire with minimal damage. frame damage is not always present when the bags go off.

as far as price/where to buy them, look on ebay. they have come way down on price on alot of cars/trucks. also look into if you will need a new airbag module. some vehicals dont require a module change after the bags have gone off where as others need to be changed out or reflashed. there is a company back east who will reflash modules if need be.

also passenger side dash airbags can be quite costly depending if the dash is a solid part or not. for example, mustangs/ most trucks can be unbolted and the airbag cover is removed from the dash. but on something like an audi a4, its a one peice dash and when the passengers side goes off it splits the dash. my brother built one for his wife and was quoted $3500.00 for the passenger side bag/dash. he ended up buying another car that was t-boned and had good pass side bag.

sorry i just realized im not sure what you were asking but hope this helps? and this is how bc is im not sure if its the same for alberta or not?

Thank you for the post. The car has been "stickered" so i think i have to go to an adjuster. Maybe i have no say what happens next? The passenger bag ripped the dash wide open. So again not good.

I dont know, never had anything like this happen before. I fired off an email to my insurance agent, hope to hear from him in the morning.
If anyone has been through this and has any advice I'd love to hear it.

Highfly,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news. The car is a loss. Both airbags are gone, and the seatbelts are stuck like that as they have pretensioners in them (pretensioners lock the belt than snug it about an inch when airbag deploys). By the time you factor airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, dash and whatever damage is behind the bumper its not worth repair.

AQlso dont take black book value. Look up that model car on kijiji /auto trader and print off the ad. than see if you can find similar on a lot. If you can take an average and than factor prices based on options, thats what the insurance company should give you.

okay so you own the car, and you would like to repair it or have it repaired?

im not sure what stickerd means but could you not ask your adjuster to pay you out and keep the car and fix it your self?

do you mind me asking what happened?

if you want to find/price out some parts here is a site i use: Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market
you can search with in canada or north america using your postal code. it will list the wreckers who have the parts starting closest to you.

Thx for the info, much apreciated.

The car being stickerd from what I understand means the car now has a record. I'm not sure about getting it back. If the car has been written off isn't it deemed as scrap?

My wife was waiting to merge onto a two lane street. It was rush hour. The mini van in front went. My wife could see there was no one in front of the mini van so proceeded to shoulder check to see if she was clear to merge in, she was and proceeded to pull out, as she turned her head to look forward again she saw the mini van at a complete stop and could not get her car stopped in time. We have no clue why she stopped. She said out right that it wasn't my wifes fault (but it was). She saw my wife was upset and gave her a hug, she was super nice. My wife was having respiratory issues (probably from the air bag dust, not sure) so an ambulance was called. They looked at both of them. Ambulance would not leave until I arrived and they explained the situation as my wife was denying transport in the ambulance. Both were OK..... that is until the other ladies husband showed up. He was yelling to her in another language, she went and sat in her van never to come out again and then all of the sudden her neck and back hurt so were screwed.

Well we got the injury side of of things taken care of. My wife has been to the doctor and has grade 2 whiplash, her back was pretty sore today, she's going to try and go to work tomorrow.
We have pretty good insurance, our rates wont be going up. We have a car rental and have approx 40 days of free use. If my wife ends up missing 7 days of work with a doctors note she can have her wages covered. I can't remember how many physio appointments she is aloud (fully covered) but it was a lot.

As for the car the inspector or what ever he is called will call sometime next week to come and look at the car here at the house. Since the air bags are deployed and the seat belts are locked they don't want us driving it. Regardless I took it over to the car wash and gave it a good cleaning. I thought by having the car clean it might sway them to fix it, it's in mint shape. I did notice now that it is clean compression marks all across the front end so I might have just shot myself in the foot. Looks like what ever is behind the plastic is damaged more than I first thought.

Looks like something popped in the center of the dash as well.

How can they write this off.......... My fingers are crossed they don't.

IMG_7223_zps5cd30faa.jpg

nothing looks out of place under the hood either...

IMG_7229_zpsc025b757.jpg

So from what I can see it will need 2 front seat belts, 2 air bags, dash plastic, front bumper plastic and what ever is behind the plastic, and probably a new air bag sensor.. I looked on Kijiji Calgary and Edmonton and cars of this year are going any where from $4,500 to $8,000. Saw one for $9,300 but I think they are out to lunch. The GT's were worth more which is what this one is.

So now it's hurry up and wait................

and not majorly injured?

She will be when I get a hold of her when she gets home...... Kidding.
She didn't make it a full day today but is trying to work. Back and neck hurts. She is in physio and they said it's going to take a while so that sux. Just hope she recovers fully and doesn't have any issues down the road.

Yes car can be replaced, just a VERY bad time for this to happen.
