About a month ago i had a Compustar remote start installed on my '13 dodge 1500 sport. The old lady tries to start it from the house and it doesnt go. So she goes out to the truck and tries to start it but the battery is dead. So i give it a boost and it starts, runs for 2 mins then shuts off. Now its locked up, only the factory fob will lock/unlock the doors. The compustar fob lights flash when functioning the buttons but the truck does not respond. The truck has the push button start and nothing happens when the start button is pushed. Ive made sure that its not stuck in valet mode, disconnected the battery and hooked it back up again, no change. Anyone else have problems with aftermarket remote starters on a new dodge? I'm going to have to get it towed back to where it was installed, but im debating on having it removed instead of repaired. Any thoughts or experience with this?
Thanks

my viper wont remote start... it flashes a bunch of times and that tells you whats wrong with it... there is a secret kill switch under the dash somewhere see if you can locate that and flip it...mine also has a button on the widow sensor for the remote start... give those a try... didn't work for me but maybe it will work for you... pisses me off too... the owners manual for me says to see local instaler... the local installer has no idea other then the switch so now i gotta loose 1 day of work and drag it down to edmonton... im considering going to gm and just seeing what their remote start is worth and ditching the whole viper alarm...

good luck... im betting the installer won't blame themselves!

good luck...

Thanks for the info. I'll look into that kill switch. Its pretty frustrating spending $700 on remote start that wont start. I just wonder with all the programming thats involved with these new trucks that maybe there will be some electrical demons further on down the road with this type of aftermarket add ons.

I had a Compustar setup on my 08 Ram. One day it did a similar thing and would not start. I called the installer and he asked me to count how many times a light flashed. Then he told me how to fix it from the flashing light code. It was the safety switch on the hood that was out of adjustment. He said this was common on new installations. I adjusted the hood switch and she fired right up. Good luck!

So i called the installer, they said to try hitting the lock/unlock buttons on the factory FOB between 5 and 10 times to get the truck out of security mode. Battery was dead again so i hooked up the booster cables, let it charge for 15 mins then figured i'd try and start it again for chits and giggles. It fires right up like nothing was wrong!!! Havent tried the remote stat again yet. Gonna take it in anyway and have the installer see if they can find a cause.

One other thing about these late model trucks. They do not like a low battery. If yours is draining down then you should probably find the problem. Or if the batteries are old then it may be time to change them.

Good luck with your truck!

I had the same issue with my remote start as well, it is in a 2007 GMC. My local stereo shop mentioned that the remote systems for this truck have to apply an electrical load in order to bypass the factory security hence the dead battery. There was not a great way to address this so I choose not to use the remote system. Sux!

I had a compustar in my first vehicle in high school. Turned out to be the worse $700 I spent. I've since bit the bullet and bought my 13 Chevy with factory remote start. Extremely happy with this. No more this aftermarket and that aftermarket switch and sensor. Only thing I have to remember when leaving mine is pull the key out a little so it remote starts.

I'm very confused by the last 2 post's.Who ever told you that a remote starter apply's an electrical
load on the vehicle in order to bypass the factory anti theft system was a total IDIOT..................
A remote starter starts a vehicle in the EXACT same way as you do when you turn the key.Take power from point
"A" and send it to point "B" factory antitheft systems are shut down during the crank cycle with diodes and resistors,
or with a module specific to that vehicle.
If installed properly.(that's a BIG if with alot of installers)99% of any remote starters will NEVER give you trouble.

Just a quick update on mine: after spending a couple of days looking into the problem, my installer contacted Compustar and they were told that they need a software update to work on the 2013-2014 dodges. The update from compustar will be ready in 10 days so back into the shop my truck will go then. I really hope that it works. I was frustrated at times but realize that this is newer technology and there are going to be bugs. From what i've read and been told, installers steered clear of doing vehicles with push button starts in the past.

Was told by the salesman that it couldnt be done on this truck. I didnt get any further explanation that so i didnt pursue it. Just figured i had to go aftermarket. Do you know of anyone with a 2013 that had factory remote start put on at a dealership?
