Just throwing this out there to see what kind of advice I can get. I am looking at getting into sleding and have pretty much narrowed down my purchase to the '10 Nytro FX MTX SE in 153" track. I want to be able to do some ditch riding and boondocking but be able to tackle the hills as well. I would like some input as to whether or not to go with a 153' or 162" track. I am wanting a sled that I am not going to grow out of in a couple of years or have to mod the heck out of to keep. I figure once I get competant at riding I will put on nitrous or a turbo. I want reliablity so I am not working on the sled more than I am riding it. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also anyone looking to bring along a newbie this winter let me know, I have a 4 place sled trailer and a quad cab diesel to pull it.

Cheers, Dave.

If I were you I'd get the longer track. Here's why.

The smaller track has an advantage mostly on the trail. Once you get into the deep stuff you wont give a rats a$$ what the trail is like.

Nytro can use the floatation from the longer track.

If you turbo in the future you'll be wanting the longer track.

Enjoy.

I think you'll find there are lots of guys on here willing to take along a new rider. Just be nice and chip in for gas.

When you get stuck you'll get a couple free then they'll start costing you beers. Nobody is picking on you. This is code.

Hey Dave- welcome to the forum....

heres my take on it, -

for a newbie. the 153 would be the best allround choice i think for a couple reasons.

if you do more boondocking and low altitude riding, as we all do, the 153 is like a crossover ie xtx -144 with the upgrade. If you do go to the hills and find out its not for you a 162 is not the most ideal sled for a lot of people,- dont get me wrong i ride and 08 apex mountain se, 162 track and do the majority of my riding here (bonnyville-2000') and its ok but im used to it and it really shines in the mountains.

if you go to the hills and love it, the 153 works very well- however not as well as the 162. of course now the 174 works better than the 162 so there is always a choice you just need to pick the best for you.

I ride with a buddy who has 153 nytro and it goes anywhere the 162 apex does, of course we are boondockers, and love the snow and dont climb every peak..

The other thing is check into a 2009 nytro mtx 153 its wayyyy cheaper.. without a hole lot of upgrades to the 2010... ie we r selling the 09 s for 10900 plus 300 freight/setup plus tax, compared to a 2010 at $$$$
check out our website for a direct comparison.

we go to mcbride 3-5 times a yr. usually room for 1 more,
-but were not the crazys, were all non smokers,we dont drink on the hill, -but do drink at the cabin and in the bars but only on days that end in Y.
-we usually leave sunday and come back thursday friday. - best riding -less crowds,, 3-4 of us...

any questions. contact me

Welcome Spikey......... You'll love the nytro. It handles great, steady on the trails & easy to throw around in the deep. I think you're right in looking at the '10 due to the changes in wider front end & new rear skid!!! I had mine changed over to 162 from 153 before I even rode it in the hills so can't help you much there. It is definitely heavier than the 2 smokes, but runs great EVERYDAY. Always great advice on here & even better groups to help you on the hill.
Some new skiis might be worth looking at & maybe down the road, a new seat(Mountain Mod is my choice) to get you up a little higher & probably bar risers right away.........depends how tall you are.
cheers & good luck:beer:

I like to thank you all for your advise and hopefully will meet up with you on the mountain. I am looking to get out to the hills a handful of times this year so if anyone is looking for an extra drop me a line, I have a tow vehicle and 4 place sled trailer to help out with also.

Cheers, Dave.

Nice to have you as a member Spikey. With that new sled you'll have to make it out to our poker rally in feb.27. About 60 miles, just so everyone can do it on a tank of gas. Get some buds and come on out good time nice ride.:d:beer:

may i make a suggestion, before laying down all that green for a new sled, maybe rent a few so you get a feel for the various sleds and how they handle. sounds like you are starting out, any friends with sleds, work etc, or you can go to a few m@s get togethers for some advice, just take it all in with a grain of salt.

Thanks for all the advise, went with the 2010 Nytro MTX SE 162" now I just got to get home to ride. Look forward to meeting some of you all on the hill.

Cheers, Dave.

Great choice on the new sled. I bought an 09 Nytro 153" at clear out prices and it's a great sled. The 10 has a lot of improvements but one pays for those improvements with the price of it. Wished I had of done the 10 but there's always next year.

I am much like you as I am just getting in to mountain riding myself. I'm a former ditch banger who rode for years but haven't been sledding in a long time (great to be back into it now). I took the Nytro out for its first ride yesterday as I met up with a couple forum guys and they took me up through some high mountain trails with tons of powder everywhere.

The 153" worked well in the deep powder but the weight of these 4 stroke sleds will cause the odd buried track without fault of the rider. They're heavy to dig out so make sure you have riding pals with you and be sure to buy a few rounds if your pals are helping you dig out.

Congrats on the new sled.
