Anybody in western Canada ever used their ACR resqlink. I bought one a few years ago based on the reviews and have never used it. I hear a lot about InReach and Spot's being the go to Sat link devices. I'm not interested in texting my wife if **** hits the fan, I'd prefer to notify search and rescue. That being said do I have the right PLB?

Also, anybody ever replaced the battery?

I don't know much about those rescue beacons but they seem similar to the ELT in an aircraft. I believe the signal would need to be detected by CAFSAR (military) and they would either respond or may dispatch local SAR.

Reading through the info its seems to me it more along the line of a avalanche becon it will not call/page the local SAR to let them know your in trouble. It just gives them a sat signal to trace you down with. You would still need something to let people know your out their. Your best bet is go talk to the local SAR and find out from them if it will work with them.
Also not sure what one you have but just stumbled across this in their FAQ
The 121.5MHz and 243 MHz beacons are no longer satellite detectable. The beacons may still function but the emergency satellite system will no longer detect the emergency signals from these frequencies. Please read the explanation of the phase out of the 121.5/243 MHz frequency from Cospas-Sarsat at http://www.sarsat.noaa.gov/phaseout.html.
If you have a 121.5 MHz or 243 MHz beacon, you should upgrade to a new .

Hi guys, I think this should clear up some of the confusion about PLB's ELT's etc...

Thanks, I think this about sums it up, sounds like I have the right product. Another guy in the group bought an InReach so I guess we have the best of both worlds.
