I heard about this yesterday from Shifty, very sad indeed. I completly understand and agree with putting flags on your wheelers and dirt bikes. However i also heard mention of the mandatory application of head lights and tail lights. This to me makes no sense as how a head light in the day time is goin to fix a problem that greatly affects riding areas. Any person who owns a motocross bike is not going to put a head light and a tail light on his machine. I seriously wonder about the people who think of these rules and regulations. Do they do it to single out a group? Do people not want MX bikes there? I realize that jumping is just as dangerous for people spectating and in the area as it is for the person riding, but common sense would tell you to have a spotter on top of the jump and landing to make sure that things like this dont happen. Its unfortinate that in any collective group there are people who just lack common sense and go and jump first and think of there actions later. My prayers do go out to the person injured and his family. Play safe everybody and do not ride alone!

This is all just what has been passed to me but I believe he is in a comma due to the face and head injuries but I will find out more tonight. Horrible crash and my prayers go out to this young man and his family. Please use spotters guys I would hate for someone from our little S&M family to be hurt in an accident that could have been prevented.

The flag idea is a good idea, In st anthonys and all other dunes its mandatory. Brule would be tricky do to all the trees and bushes but at certain times like this accident it most likely would have been prevented. As for the head light I think it is retarded. Most dirt bikes dont even have a generating coil to allow for a head light and most people dont ride in the dark anyway. I hope he makes a full recovery and my prayers go out to him and his family.

The accident is unfortunate and hopefully the victim recovers...though last I heard he was not doing too good. The headlight idea doesn't make any sense, especially for the motocross bikes, but the use of a spotter is almost a must. I was at the area where the accident had taken place and the one biker involved had jumped right into an area where other people could be potentially foolin around( obviously there was ). Very unfortunate. No one ever wants this but in the same sense everyone has to use their heads; Brule is a vast area where thousands of people could be burning around in one day, we all have to make sure the path is clear before going head first. A lot of people probably had a little too much to drink as well( some that I seen had ).

I believe his name is Irwin Stolks, he lives near Uncas School. He is still in the hospital but not doing very well.

i heard this from a guy that was there, so i would guess it is true. Irwin was watching a couple of guys on dirtbikes jumping a dune, when he decided to leave before someone got hurt. As he crossed the dune another rider jumped the dune and hit him in the head. his helmet got knocked off his head. the guy on the bike landed the jump. someone with a cellphone with gps coordinates phoned in, stars was busy. i heard it was a military copter that came. they were on there way back from jasper. they flew him to a hinton ambulance. not to sure what happened after that. hopes he get better .

Story is pretty close, I was right there when it happened as well, maybe 15 20 feet away. The two guys jumping were his friends. After the bike hit him it kicked the bike and he crashed, he wasnt hurt. There were three of us just trying to keep him from moving. He was making the knocked out snoring breathing for about 15 minutes and his jaw looked pretty messed. He stopped bleeding from the mouth at about the half hour mark. We were pretty disapointed at the start when the one person called 911 and it was like they didnt really care, they never stayed on the line and just said they would send an ambulance (in the middle of the sand dune) I know that stars was busy but you think that we wouldnt have to phone back 4 times to keep telling them he isnt doing good. Irwin did get some what consious when the copter came which was about 1hr after it all happened and the paramesic rolled him on his back. The on eparamedic said that they were gonna land at the ambulance and put him to sleep and then fly to edmonton. That is all I know and I sure hope he gets well.

Hi Everyone

This is Erwin's wife here. I only have a moment, so I thought I would post a something. THe good news is he is still alive. He has been out of the ICU for about a week now. He still only wakes up for about 1/2 hour a day, but that is a start. He does have some head injuries, but we won't know the extent until he fully wakes up. The rest of his injuries were a broken jaw, broken right shoulder, multiple broken right ribs and a collapsed right lung (which they have reinflated). He is getting stronger and stronger each day. I am hoping and praying for a full recovery. It is going to be a long road for us.

I want to thank everyone who helped out on the scene as you guys saved his life!!

I will come on regularly and update you on his condition. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a private message or email me!

Thanks

Ok, I really hate to do this, but I have to let you guys know that Erwin passed away Monday, July 9th at 3:21 am. It looked like he was getting better, and then suddenly left us. I am not exactly sure why he left us, the hospital is doing an autopsy and we won't get the results for a while. For anyone who is interested their will be a viewing Sunday July 15, from 7-9 pm and the funeral will be Monday July 16 at 10:00 am. Both of these will be held at the Glenwood Cemetary in Sherwood Park, AB.

Thank you all for your well wishes during this ordeal, and for helping on the scene.

Deanne
