Seems like a good idea. Are you testing for interference with beacons?

The only thing I can see without really thinking about it is..........

Sitting around having a break and some dude pushes the button and says, "What's this for Dave?"

The biggest thing is time will prove. But one of my thoughts is signal interferance. We already know it as being a problem with all the gaget's some people feel they need to carry.
Also as mentioned accidental deployment either from someone else wondering what the botton is for or you your self hitting it accidently.
Another thought is system signal malfunction, a malfunction can delay precious time in deployment of bag's if realy needed. Just some food for thought.

That is a great idea, my input would be better button placement, when you pushed the button you had to fumble around a little to find it, you also took your eyes off the terrain while looking for the button to push with your index finger. It would be much more suitable if the button could be pushed with your left thumb without having to take your eyes off the terrain.

Thanks

It looks like a decent idea for sure. The thing that popped into my head was when the sled gets away from ya and slams a tree just right and your sitting above it with a deployed air bag due to a branch or something jams the button. But on the plus side it'd be hilarious watching that happen to your buddy.

Some great thoughts, just so you know on this day we just zap strapped the unit to the sled for video, we did not mount it fixed as you can where it would not move or need to be looked at to push it. The reason for holding it for 3 seconds is to eliminate accidental deployment, remember you can still pull the handle on the wireless, the push button just offers you another choice, especially for those who think they are going to out run an avy doing full throttle then pull their left hand off the bars and deploy their air big....if you think you will then I offer you try riding a dirt bike fast through the whoops on your local track and in the middle take your left hand off the bars and pull your air bag...

On signal interference, it is easy to avoid this, companies like gopro, cell phone companies, gps don't test for signal interference with avy beacons because it is a small percentage of their users, but winter sports companies do and ABS has since I have used the wireless system without incident for 3.5 years..

Any air bag can be set off accidentally which is why you should always have a spare canister or canister and handle(with abs) in your truck or with you on a trip or at least one between your group.

I 100% agree about your post and trying to out run an avy and holding on to the bar's while trying to deploy your pack.
You said these have been in use for 3.5yrs now.......:suspicious:

the abs wirless system has been in use not the handle bar mount button in the video it is the orange and black piece where the pull cord on the pack is
it can be triggered by someonelse in your group if everybody has one and they are sync up
if you were high marking and caused an avi your buddy could deploy your airbag for you while you try to out run the avi

Dunno if first off I'd trust it to work , with interference with beacons ect.

Plus letting someone else make the decision on when to blow it off.

What's the worst that could happen if someone else sets off your bag? You would end up riding around looking like this if you felt that the avalanche danger was too high and you weren't carrying a spare cylinder and handle. Plus I think you would set it up so all of the bags in your group deploy wirelessly so if someone's being a smart azz and deploying your bag for fun then his will deploy too.

You set it up by pushing the buttons so that only on person can blow off the bag of the person on the hill or if there ever was a need the group leader can blow all the bags if there was a big avi ( which with proper training this should never need to be done )
you can also still pull your own handle if you want
The wireless set ups work on a total different frequency and do not cause interference with beacons like gps and gopro cameras
It is a very neat Idea doubt I would ever get one as it is an expensive option

I think a wireless signal sent to you avi-pack via a button on the handle bars is a great idea. I also agree with smokes ez smokes idea that the button should probably be accessible by the left thumb. But its seems like a very expensive option... perhaps in a a couple years the price of this technology will be more in my price range.
