Most like wore linkage parts between the (foot) shifter shaft and the shifting drum. It may not be one part, but an accumalation of wear of several parts.
Take the cover off of the opposite side of the shifter, on the end of the shifter shaft there will be a torque screw that has come loose. If you end up needing a new trans, I have one
