Sorry guys - screaming baby in the background when I posted that, was in a rush. Yes my math does not add up - Admittedly I did not have time to do the actual math for the 1:1 on the right triangle to calculate the hypotenuse side distance, but there is no way a 67 degree angle on a equal rise/run (right triangle) could be 2700 ft on the hypotenuse side. The 1050 would be a "minimum" distance you would travel horizontally on a 1:1 rise since it can never be less than that, yes, tekim and plio you are both correct, 1484 is the correct math for it.

The rough calculation of the run for that distance travelled on Turbo would be about 2400 ft? I don't know about that - seems long, someone with a calculator better double check my math... although a 1:1 at 1050 would be 45 degrees, so about double that distance on the horizontal would cut the angle by half, which mountainbigbull said he got at around 23 degrees so that's maybe close. Sorry, doing most of this in my head...trying to use crappy computer calculator but it doesn't even have a square root function...anyway, the rough math in my head earlier was that a distance of only 1050 ft vertical with a hypotenuse slope of 2700 ft would not produce a 67 degree angle simply because of the right triangle truth.

Not trying to be an a$$, just pointing out the math. Gotta run, bath time for the little one. :D

Highest mountains around there are in the 2700-2800 mtr range (according to google), the highest point on the rogers pass highway is 1300 mtrs, total vertical gain of 1400 meters or 4500 ft to the mountain top. I guess total distance travelled could be 7000 ft by the time you're done, but I'm not overly concerned with total distance, just vertical.

who said it was rogers pass??

to get back on subject, not that everyone is isn't loving the math lesson. This nice looking chute is located in Mount Robson Provincial Park between jasper and valemount just off the highway, so it has never been climbed and never will be.

Google Earth
Lat 53° 2'1.17"N
Long 119° 6'17.26"W

distances through google earth
left chute 4200ft, and a distance of about 2.3 km if you start from the end of the run off area
