kill switch or tether probably killed the electrical

Nope the motor stopped in a hurry and i took a look through the exhaust port today and there's minor scratches on the wall of the cylinder on the PTO side :(

So what could it be??

When it quit on you on the climb did you try pulling the recoil at that time to see if it would start?

My starter gave out for the 3rd time in a row but we started it at the base of the hill and just left it there once we shut it off

And for the probe placement if i use my single pipe where would i put the probes....just in the y pipe?

thanks alot

No there is no auxililary plug, just splice into the handwarmer wire or the taillight wire.

You didn't have the EGT hooked up yet? if there are scratches on the wall you need to pop the head off and have a better look. Maybe post some pics. Dead stop does not sound like a serious meltdown, you probably wouldn't have got it running again or rode it out if it was.

For splicing do i just grab the positive lead and that it and then just ground the digitron on the block?

no i didnt but before the next time im going out im going to be doing a few things. Im going to pop off the cylinder head soon today but im sure the piston and cylinder wall will be fine and i shouldnt have to replace the piston (im also going to compression test it)

For each power wire there should be a ground (so for the rear taillight wire there will be a power and ground) at the plug. I like to use the factory grounds because they ground back through the wiring harness and to the chassis, I didn't have very good luck grounding my A/F gauge to the motor, I think the rubber mounts isolated it from the chassis too much.

Ok soo today i bought myself a compression tester for my sled. The good cylinder was at 150PSI WOT 5 compression strokes, the scared cylinder was 130 PSI WOT 5 compression strokes.....i didnt realize the compression was sooo high could this be bad for it? what do you think the compression ratio would be?

Would i still be alright running it like this? it seemed to run great :d and no predetonation. Could the slight seize be from ring gap being to close?

I havent been on here for a while but on saterday i went for a ride the snow wasnt that great super heavy snow almost hard, you could climb anywhere with about 1/2 throttle (their wasnt any challenge). I hooked up my egt gauges and also put in 66g weight in the primary. The extra weight seemed to work great it loaded the motor quite a bit more seemed to pull alot harder and only reving to 78-7900RPM; my egts were around 300 idle, 6-800 1/4 throttle 900 ish for 1/2 and 3/4, WOT i was at 1150 +/- on the left cylinder and 950-1000 on the right. My midrange has a difference of 200 and WOT only 100

Do these temps sound about right?, i know that every machine will be different but do they sound ok?

still sounds rich with only an 1150 top temp but you gotta check plugs to confirm

I didnt really change the jetting at all, y would iv squicked my motor the ride before if my temps are in the safe zone??

could ethonal cause anything in carbed sleds? iv heard its not too good for FI/DI

detonation? I don't know what you are doing in terms of fuel octane etc so I can't really say. Plug check is the best correlation to combustion temp, if you haven't done that then your temps might not really be in the "safe zone" depending on probe location etc. You don't jet by the EGT, you jet by plugs then correlate that to the EGT readings.

Well its been a while since i posted anything in here.

Before i went out on the weekend i read the skidoo racing manual and saw that for the position of rotary valve that they want you to place it closer to the closing side, i couldnt remember what i did soo i pulled it apart and what i ended up doing is placing it right in the middle of the 2 marks soo i changed it and holy $h!t iv got good fuel milage once again lol :d i was at 1/2 a tank and put on 45 +/- kms, i also put in my HAC and stock carbs back in.

The compression is lower since i can pull it over now with ease, sometime this week ill compression test it for exact numbers.

I also noticed a bit of a power loss but im not too worried about it since id rather have better MPG but i will be trying the 44mm carbs the next time i go out to see if i get much more power but if i dont notice much power increase ill stick with the HAC for peace of mind. And i will try a taller top gear to get faster track speed since im only around 60km/h right now (but i dont know how much difference it is between 8tooth and 9 tooth speed wise) just to load the motor more
