Everybody has a different face and head (size, shape, etc) therefore a goggle (or helmet) that works for your buddy may not work for you.
Personally, I like the fit and performance of ProGrip goggles with the dual lenses for winter and summer riding - good optics, good lens choices, and comfy fit. I've tried multiple Scott, Smith, & Oakley goggles and find the ProGrips work best for my face and my helmets (One Ind., HJC, Fulmer, and Shoei).
That being said, I have never tried 509's.
Habervision has 3 basic goggle lens colors: clear, optical orange and vermillion
The opitcal orange balances a need for low light perception and bright light glare blocking. Haber mates a high contrast orange color with Tri-Oxide™ rainbow blue flash coatings and polarization to produce a lens with a broad performance spectrum. Optic Orange™ delivers unbelievable performance in flat light or bright light.
Vermillion tends to provide the best contrast in low light conditions. It also preserves your night vision by preventing the bleaching of “rhodopsin” a pigment located amongst the rods and cones on your retina.
Clear is a basic clear lens.
Polarization is something that also helps tremendously in bringing a sharper picture to you although in flat light polarization will not help as much as it does on bright light days.
Really it is a personal preference. I ride with the optical orange all the time as does my husband, my son however rides with the vermillions all the time.
One note about the haber fans. It's true, they do not fit our Sinister model well. So we have been working directly with Haber to develop & license a 509 specific version of the fan that we will release next fall. It is specifically molded to fit both our Sinister and Aviator goggles perfectly. The 509/Haber fan is a great addition for those who sweat excessively. Stay tuned for it's release.
