great question and yes, just the inner lens is heated. would be a good question to ask of tempest.
could be that in most situations that the tempests outperform the others but not in all scenarios.
if you ask them, post back what they say.

The same thing happened to mine, I never tried it but...I wonder if a guy just popped the magnetic outer lens off if they would stay clear??

I’d have to guess that it would work or at least work well enough but I don’t know if the inner lens has any scratch resistance so that would be a concern if you were in those conditions frequently.
it would be great if they had a trial period so people could test them out. i get why they don’t but I bet almost no one would return them.
