Haha as I mentioned it's a backup and the gf's sled and when I get my xm my 11 is replacing the 07 and it'll be up for sale, also my 07 has a full 09 swap so other than the registration it's an 09. My point was more aimed at the fact you can limit your riding partners by the sled you buy, I don't care if I come across ignorant as it's fact for many people, I don't wanna waste any of my already limited time riding by messing with towing junk home or wrenching on the trail if I can avoid it same goes for helping dig people out, if you wanna ride heavy old iron or a big bad 4smoke you're on your own unless you're in danger or hurt. Call it what you will not everyone's a nice person and myself at least I don't pretend I am, I make it pretty clear myself and my group are arrogant, picky, and judgmental, kind of like everyone and their if you don't have avy training you can't ride with us, everyone has their deals. I think running an M series you're gonna keep up and not limit yourself too bad for at least a few years but on a rev you're going to do the opposite, I hate riding with carbed machines for one and for two I really hate pulling blown 800r's outta the mountains

Why i said that was f*cking stupid is because the op said his budget for a sled allowed him 4500. I bought a 15 k sled. That was in my budget for the purchase of a snowmobile. I also have budgeted monies for maintanance, fuel, repairs, trips etc. see where this is going? He didn't say he had 4500 to ride all year/years. Not that complicated really.

He he said he had $4500 max for a Rev or M8 I just checked on Edmonton Kijiji out of 1222 sleds for sale only 59 were In the $4000/$4500 price range, most of them were 2000 to 2004 models. Only a few that were what the OP was looking for, if your buying an older sled and your max is $4500 your rolling the dice. You better have a couple grand extra just in case, but you could get lucky and not have any problems, see where this is going, not that complicated really.

NOTHING wrong with 2004-2006 800HO not R rev chassis summits. motors were reliable, sled was a lot of fun...and you dont feel like its 1987 when your riding it. ya the 07 rev had some issues i would stay away from them although once fixed they haul the mail.

Can't hurt to get the sled looked over before you take it out either! I didn't last year and it blew up pretty damn quick... Took in this years machine before I rode it and wouldn't you know it that prevented blowing this one up! Even if it looks immaculate and has low miles you never know what gremlins could be hiding inside.

I was holding onto mine for young jesus, but he's gonna upgrade his truck first.... his $10/day MM will be his ride for this season.

I'm not anxious to sell, if I get $4850 I'll let her go, otherwise I'm gonna ride the piss outta it, compression is good, DD is good and she's straight. Tired of lowball losers wanting to trade for a sport quad or a 1987 ninja or put $2500 down and make payments or straight out tell me I'm asking too much when mine is the cheapest one for the year and miles on kijiji.

Because upgrading an old cummins gets you great return on investment from what I hear. hopefully he's investing in a waste veggie oil conversion so he can drive to the mountains on $10 diesel to warm up the truck then flush out the injectors on arrival.

Bit of an over reaction don't ya think? I would ride with anyone that wants to go, don't care what you ride, as long as it works well. A couple years ago the guys I usually go to the mountains with wanted to do a retro ride. The rules were you couldn't spend more than 3 grand for purchase and maintenance on the sled you brought to the ride. Of the five sleds brought out only two worked OK for the whole weekend, one didn't make it up the trail, one burnt belts all weekend, and one trashed the chaincase. None of these sleds ever made it back to the mountains with our group, just not worth the cost and hassle to make them reliable. Buying, riding and maintaining a sled is an expensive proposition, most douchebag thing I've read on this thread is you making an assumption about me not riding with you because your sled is not expensive enough!

I know people that have new every year that rat bag the **** out of there machines and pay zero attention to upkeep. id take my dragon anywhere as apposed to borrowing one of theirs. not talking about any one ive met or talked to from S&M. I know upkeep isn't cheap but no one can say that a sled that is older than an 07 shouldn't be trusted or a dragon for that matter. lots of 12, and13's that never made it off a hill or out of a field under their own power. it boils down to all brands having weak points. just have to decide what weakpoint you want to deal with. I wouldnt turn away from riding with anyone on account of what they brought to the party as I think most people that are in this past time wouldn't intentionally show up with a piece of **** machine. like I said, theres lots of new iron that could be considered junk. Im the first to admit to the guys I ride with sometimes that I don't want to hold them back, but that's not because they may have to rescue me off the hill because im on a dragon, it would be my lack of experience if anything. but my dragon gets me out there learning and practicing. don't want some new guy to the forum to read the comment "if your budget is 4500 maybe sledding isn't for you" and think that he or she are on there own out there because of what they ride. im guessing this a little long winded so ill stop now. and again Trench, my appoligies.

So $4500 is on the low end of these sleds
I would look at the condition, history, upgrades, rebuilds more than the which model to get.
