why would you buy a new 2 stroke machine without warranty or even just one year? of any brand. They are all time bombs in some way. My friends Hardcore has been through 2 engines this season. Bet hes glad he got the warranty LOL

shortblock install in a skidoo is a 6000$+ bill

sure you may never use it. But when you need it....worth it

The guys taking one year warranty get their sleds cheaper and sell cheaper than the guys trying to recover some of the inflated cost they paid for full 4 year warranty so I would have to disagree.
With overall used prices in the tank having the ability to be the cheap guy on kijiji is a definite advantage as the used buyer is looking for the "cheap" deal as they can not afford new.
Just like the 1 year new warranty guy they will also accept risk for cost.
As we are pinpointing the Alpha they will sell on reputation.....they have a good one.
People will accept risk for cost if the reputation is there, and it is.

Would I buy a new G4 without 4 year warranty?
Not a hope in hell, but then that is just me lol.
My post wasn't directed as derogatory to Alpha's. It was targeted towards them as Cat is the only company of the 4 that are marketing their product this way. I have to assume that Alpha's will be selling 10-1 to twin railed Cats so that is why I am using them in my question. Buying cheap and selling cheap is no different than buying high and selling high is it not? Cat 401 would tutor you on that with John Deere product. Lol. If the 3 other manufacturers are selling multiple years warranty with their new models then theoretically they will have a higher resale value than a sled with no warranty. I agree that the Alpha has been a great sled for Cat this year and that they will sell quite a few of them next year even in this depressed market. Take it for what it is. I have only followed the sledding market now for 40 years so I could be wrong. Lol

How do the munster ski bushing savers help the front end ride??

The biggest improvement of the new spindle is to stop the ski from over extending and extra stress on the rubber. The Munster product is a bolt on product that achieves a similar result. Seen a few guys running it in the Kootenays this winter and they swore by it for Doo guys.

Wow some one as old as me! 40 years in the market.

A low price is attractive to lot of people and it is their option to buy more warranty.
A very good market ploy in a depressed economy - good "option" to buy or not to buy.
Buying high is buying high and there is a difference for sure when they all sell pretty close used because dealers dump in the spring.
That higher up front depreciates more - these are toys not combines.
As a consumer a smaller number is always attractive up front -less risk of loss if the dice are in your favor.
One year warranty is enough to spot a lemon.

Cat401 did not get to sell me much as some of my equipment was that cheaper Massey stuff and it worked just fine.
Never a crop left in the field.

All good on using Alpha as an example - that low sticker price will be attractive regardless of how it got there.
Bonus is the product it is attached to is proven reliable.

Sales are going to be tough for all brands with this sucky economy - NOBODY on this site allowed to vote NDP April 16 or you get a 5 year ban from Mods.

I used to believe in the extended warranty until I found out about all the loopholes that they have and stories about how many guys have bought it and been screwed over or never used it. For the extra $2500 give or take I feel it’s money better left in the bank. I’ve never used extended warranty on anything.

My dad bought a used car from a dealership in Kelowna that still had factory warranty on it. They sold him extended warranty also with the stipulation if you don’t make a claim you got all but the $110 deductible back. Come the end of his extended warranty they were good on their word as he never made a claim.

This type of extended warranty would work for most people albeit not profitable for companies that use third party coverage. I myself am tired of paying “in case $hit” aka insurance on stuff already and never collecting. I see extended warranty in the same light.

I sell sleds for a dealership. X models are always in higher demand than in season models. That’s a fact. They get better resale as well. Not a lot over an SP but there is a higher demand for them so that is better resale in my books.

Unless I missed something, the discussion was started about the inseason sleds devaluing the snowcheck sleds.

Absolutely, If a person was snowchecking I agree 100%. A “X” package sled is worth the extra at that time. So right now if I was in the market for a new sled why would I buy a used x, if I could get a brand new SP for about the same price? A consumer that is budget minded, that is more appealing than spending top dollar on a used sled with 6mths more warranty. Mind you depending on what the snowchecker got for warranty at the time.

$2500 for an extended warranty?

I paid $300 for years two and three on my last sled. That $300 is worth it to me even if I don’t use it for resale purposes.

Hmmmm something not adding up, what is creating the huuuge price difference?

Is there more that I am not getting.

I took it we were talking resale on x versus sp sleds. I believe that is what Brandon was asking, not about used X's versus new Sp's.

Polaris factory warranty. They offer it on the holdover sleds. Goes right into the Polaris computer with the VIN upon purchase.

But can’t tell you guys anything.
