Pretty sure we have the 550 last year too, maybe it was snowcheck only?
I certainly did not see this last weekend. Unless you are referring to several loop backs to help others while you headed up? If I remember correctly even the 155 handed you your lunch. Or was that a dream? Maybe a rematch is in order to sort this out? ; )
Take the Bounce on his 155 definitely took the crown! I just need to figure out a way to add about 100 lbs into his backpack without him noticing or for me to cut my leg off and learn to ride that way as its the only way I'll ever lose enough weight to be competitive with all you finely tuned mountain athletes... Probably just LOFT (Lack Of F@#$ing Talent) on my part.
It’s OK Jim. There is nothing wrong with being the last one to the top of you are looking good in that TOBE Monosuit on that brightly colored beast. Lots of LOFT here too !!!
Did you look at the changes to the Summit Expert Chris? Yeah there is some meh stuff like handguards and grab handle but new rear shocks, new cleaner boards, lower seat, lighter weight and new front suspension geometry/ski's that specifically address what you feel is a weakness with Doo in a steep sidehill operation. Shorter tunnel for better snow evacuation and tail stand maneuvers which your personal idol and mentor has been doing for a couple years now? We got some decent improvements, not game changing mind you to the #1 selling mountain sled in North America but great upgrades all in all. And Polaris? They got engine reliability updates and calibration upgrades to stop the blubbering and plug fouling that has plagued them most of the season. Yes you got a new youth sled but I think Doo worked harder at the mountain segment than Polaris did.
Ken admittedly Ski Doo is 2 years ahead in their cycle of the 850 over Polaris. They spent the last 3 years fixing design mistakes (clutching, motor mounts, venting) and now can move on to improvements from what they initially intended. Polaris should get caught up to the Doo pretty quick as they seem to have had issues that have obvious easy fixes (Locking bearing, fuel map, and assembly issues). Even with that, they updated the 155 suspension with the Khaos. Unfortunately both companies appear to not have put in the effort with much for updates on the longest track sleds. I am impressed that Doo is making a decent sled and does seem to be working toward an "Expert" sled but it is not there yet, in my opinion. Doo can easily take off some more weight(air plenum/hood is way too heavy) and build rails with a much better attack angle. This could sway me in the future if the 175 could also get the better shock package too. I do believe Doo has left a lot of performance on the table, motor-wise (top end) and handling-wise (squirrly control). Good shocks and rails could be all it needs to improve handling although some others would still insist on ditching the T-Motion. Bret Rasmussen's modified sleds ride way better than stock so I know it can be done. My Polaris is good for another year and I expect to see a new G5 chassis from Doo for 2021 so who knows. One thing I will say about the G4 is that at the 4th year in the cycle, buyers are likely to get a very reliable product with most of the bugs completely gone.
I don't think you will see a g5 from skidoo any time soon.
How much would they need to change in order to call it a G5? New light weight hood (that is easily removed and as light as Polaris), LED lighting, new rail profile that is stronger at the rear and not so steep at the front and T-motion as only an option and add 5 hp just because they could and all models get the "Expert" updates.
Yeah they could call it what ever they want, but garantee it will still have the same motor and chassis for the next 5 years.
I like the new name and the list of parts but graphics are fugly IMO
