It is getting scarier. Environmental and conservation groups are convinced that there will be a significant amount of money — up to $1.4 billion dollars — in next week's federal budget for conservation. CPAWS (Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society) is another group similar to Y2Y but wholly Canadian. Here is a quote from a news article that is linked below:
"There is a huge amount of support for that scale of investment and there is a lot of momentum building," said Alison Woodley, national conservation director for the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, in an interview with CBC. This is the scale of investment we think is necessary."
They talk about land and water being set aside in Parks and Reserves to come up with a total of 17% of Canada or an area equivalent to the size of Manitoba. Presently, we are at 10%. Water preservation??? That's the big push of Y2Y with the logo of Headwater Protection that we are presently seeing in Alberta.
