One thing nobody has mention including skidoo is that the extra injectors will help with cooling the crank.

And also the pistons. I find with the current etec the rings go square from running so hot allowing blow by thus cooking the motor

Anybody know if the new p drive clutch can be used on the 800 etec ? I'm sure it may be possible with some machining but it would be sweet if thy designed it to also work with the 800 etc right off the shelf

That's what I am waiting to here! New clutch will prob be worth triple what a machined P-85 is though!

Probably a dumb question but where does the excess oil go that is lubing the crank and connecting rods?

unverified but hear the taper is different

Nobody has mentioned how the new TRA is a TOTALLY different clutch than the old TRA. The old TRA (all models) were fixed ramp/movable roller systems. The "A" in TRA is Adjustable....the clickers changed the finish height of the ramps. This new TRA is a fixed roller/movable ramp system just like Polaris, Yammy, AC....a Comet-style clutch if you will. Nobody up until now has even attempted an adjustable fixed roller/movable ramp clutch. This will be a game changer.

The new Doo sounds pretty sweet ! As for the TRA I thought it was always an adjustable ramp. I have never been a Doo guy so ?? maybe your right. But I do have to agree with mur190 that a recut P85 is the best clutch for the dollar.

You are correct...the TRA was before and still is an adjustable ramp...the difference is that now the ramp is movable...a curved flyweight like other Comet clutches. On the old TRA, the ramp was fixed and the roller was on a pivot with adjustable pin weights.

Great vids Dave.. As much as I wanted to wait a year. This thing seams like a first year buy..

few questions..

Rich seams like a very knowledgable guy.. Wish I had his cell..lol

they keep mentioning 2.8 lbs lighter than previous tra.. Is that saying the p clutch is 13lbs?? Or 2.8 lighter than previous tra race primary.. Second question is what's the life of the inner bushings.. I have previous changed my bushings every third season.. Or is the new bushing a much longer life cycle ..

as for the engine, Rich mentions the starter ring gear moved to the mag side.. Is this weight of the ring gear just swaped to mag side from Pto or is it just added with the starter kit?.. What added weight is the starter kit over pull start?

what is the weight savings of the new cooler design and coolant over t3 system..

Has and work has been done with boost added to this motor.. Looks very stout.. I like how rich called them boost injectors..

Cat still sells sleds so obviously throw away clutches don't deter all buyers.
I rode Cat for seven years, had to buy three clutches. When the dollar was good you could find them on-line for $250 brand new. What's a TRA worth $1200+?

I rode Cat for seven years, had to buy three clutches. When the dollar was good you could find them on-line for $250 brand new. What's a TRA worth $1200+?

I've never had to buy a complete TRA clutch, other than foreign objects going thru one you'd have to let it go pretty far before you damaged it beyond repair. I don't put many miles on per year anymore, I just rebuild it every season so I know it's good for the few I do put on.

I won't be doing another first year sled tho, I'll wait until they get a year on it but I'm pretty sure they've learned their lesson from '07/'08. this new engine looks super stout, would be nice to harken back to the rotary days when you didn't have to worry about an engine for many seasons.

Hundreds of $ on Doo tools to do the rebuild? I hope this clutch is all that they say it is. If they get some demos out there we'll see if it runs hot as a fire cracker too. Maybe maintenance won't be possible on the new clutch and if something goes wrong you'll be forced to buy new $$$

I built my own tools, all you really need is the spring compressor to take the spring cup off and the button retainers. the puller is nice to split the halves but not required.

And how about when the dollar sucks and the smokin deals dry up?
Cat clutch is only $600 every 2500 miles
My doo is about $150 every 2500 miles.

Guess we'll see if the new one is like the cat where parts pretty much aren't available or if a rebuild kit will be available.

roll of Teflon tape and 200 ml of water is cheaper then a puller, all you really need is a piece of ready rod with two large washers and 2 nuts... available at your local princess auto for a whopping $6.72
