It is a couple of years too late though... I am thinking that the 174 isn't going to be such an outstanding market anymore though.

I'm curious why you think that? Because there sure seemed to be a lot of hurt feeling that Doo didn't offer it in the 850. I'm willing to bet had Doo offered it in the 850, it would still be better then sliced bread to the blind faithful.

I'm not blown away by the new Poo either, but I think saying they showed up with a 174 late, and ignoring a few of doos new changes as not being 'late' is just stupid. Very typical mind you.

Why is the axys 174 have a ski stance of 39-41"? Do the shorter versions of the axys have the same ski stance or is it somewhere around 36-38"?
If it's wider I wonder what the purpose would be.

Also it says it has a chain case? I thought polaris went to belt drive a couple years ago? Or is the belt drive only available with the shorter track too?

Polaris's believe is that the wider stance helps cut into the hill when sidehilling and is on all models regardless of length. The 3 inch track comes with a chain case regardless of length and I am surprised that was not changed for 2017

Great looking machine. I would love to see the 174 do a pull beside the new doo 165.

Maybe it's just the angle of the pictures that I have seen but it appears the Polaris track paddles are right up to the edge and the Doo paddles look like they are inset a bit so the 16" may only be a 15"????

Or all they all designed that way - - with the paddles inset a bit?

I know after market tracks the lugs are in. Can't recall the stock tracks

Kinda what i expected.....seeing how they had a big release last year. Anyone know how the power to weight comparisons match up?

Don't think that will be a comparison. 165 wouldn't come close I don't think. Apples to apples. Be Nice to see both 74s pull a hill though My stock 63 wouldn't touch a 74 doo mark..

they can't get the proper gear ratios with a belt drive on the 3" tracks, the lower pulley is too big and hangs below the pan too far.

So they don't want to put their belt drive on a track with 3" lugs? That seems strange to me as there is lots of aftermarket belt drives on 3" tracks on all different brands over the last while. This new axys is looking pretty nice but I don't like that you don't get the better technology with the belt drive on the best sleds. Same thing as skidoo not putting the 850 in the 174. It's like the manufacturers don't want to give the customers "everything" all in one package.

If they have you everything you wanted one year, they wouldn't sell any sleds the next year. This way it keeps people coming back and buying new

I say that because I hear from lots of people first hand that they are going back to the 154/163 from their 174's. 154-ish length is the most fun, if you ride tight trees.


Doo does what it can to stay on top without putting ALL their cards on the table.

Actually I think the main reason is because they didn't have the time to change their WHOLE production line in one year. It's not like they just bolt on a skid and slap on a track. Re-tooling is involved.

Track width for floatation, Lugs are for traction. The doo has a tapered tunnel, so Im guessing that is why.

It is strange. Its like they didnt want to take any chances with the aluminum drift shaft and the belt drive with the big 3" after the 2013 problems.

I know people that have 3" tracks on their 2.6" axys sleds and the belt drive is fine.

If history repeats its self, there will be big changes to the line up next year and hopefully a 3" belt drive is it as well as 36" stance.

Marketing...blah blah. I wouldn't want to admit a new release being out hill climbed by its predecessor either.. Time will tell.. Believe it when I see it.
