Hi guys

I have a 2013 xm - etec 800r summit x with electric start. (1400kms) this weekend about to head out for a ride, The sled started right away (with electric starter) but i immediately noticed there was no power to the dash/gauges and no headlights. Reverse still working(no buzzer) sled runs fine up until higher rpm (5000rpm) where it seems to cut in and out. Rode the weekend before, a great day of powder and it was fine when i parked it. Kinda has me scratching my head.

I have checked both fuses, checked plug and pins on and under the gauge cluster.

Hoping one of you has possibly come across something similar and can point me in the right direction to begin, I've been doing a lot reading online and am hoping its not the stator.

Thanks in advance,
R

Might be moisture in the housing, had a similar issue with the gauge not working. Didn't have problems with my headlights but it's worth a look. Be careful and take it apart and let it dry out really well, then try it.

Have had a similar issue as well can’t tell for sure if my headlights were out. But I’ve had the cluster go dead on me on my 2015 summit. No start up beeps, no reverse beeper, no needle sweep, but in certain light I was able to see the dash flickering. Not enough to make anything out though. Just like it was dead. What I’ve done that seems to have cured it were to completely disassemble the cluster and let it dry out for a day or to and dry out/ blow out the plug. Seemed to work for a bit and had to do it a couple times so it may have been a bit of the issue. Another issue I found was the plug that clips into the cluster kinda sprung apart on me and I wrap a cable tie around the plug and under the lock tab. This seems to help secure it to the cluster and haven’t seemed to have a issue since.

Thanks for the quick responses guys!

I will be checking out and attempting to dry out the cluster this evening as well as checking the condition of the capacitor. I'll update soon on what I find.

Fingers crossed!

Thanks again,
R

Yeah, sounds like a gauge issue, those gauges can get moisture in them pretty easily, the alert beeper in my sled quit working almost 2 years ago but everything else works. I do have some moisture building up on one side of the gauge but for now it still works like it's supposed too.

So i dried out my cluster even though i didn't find it to be wet inside. And plugged it in and everything seemed to be working properly. Then i put the hood back on and plugged everything back in and it was back to the same problem. I started backtracking 1 step at a time and as long as the headlights weren't plugged in, the dash light up. Dug into it and found some rubbed wires creating a short!

Maybe this helps someone down the road.
Thanks for the help guys,
R

You must be an electrician, starting at the source and working backwards is how I always trouble shoot these kinds of issues instead of throwing parts at it and trying to solve the problem. Smart troubleshooting Rcdw.

When I had my '15 summit I had to silicone around the housing after the first couple rides because of moisture,.. after that it was fine.
