I ride a 154" and my next sled is a 163". It's very uncommon that you see people that went too long of a track, most say they went too short.

Ok. But what are your thought on this:

154’ – 2.5” VS. 163” – 2.25”

Would that even the playing field?

yes in certain snow conditions. but the floatation of the 163 will still keep it on top the snow longer from what ive seen. thats really a tossup but the 2012 163/154 comes with a 2.5 anyways.

bingo.

163 is the only way to go especially if you ride trees. do not let anyone tell you that you cant maneuver a 163 aswell as a 154 or a 146.

watch the last 1/4 of this video. the 163 will go in some tight spots :D

You calling that tight? Man I could fit a pickup through those trees.

In the pow, if the track is spinning, any track will turn easy. When the snow gets pushy, and real tight, like "in the trees" a shorter track will be easier to handle, all day long.

But then again, that's my opinion...

i said watcht the last 1/4 of the video. trees are barely wide enough for the skis. a 154 in this situation would have been toast at the bottom. doesnt have the tractoring ability.

you nailed it right there. because the 163 floats better you can modulate the throttle more, you don't have to pin it as much. it's kinda funny, when you get into tight trees, the 163 is like cheating. you watch all the other guys nailing the throttle and you get to torque you're way through...it's just easier. I have swapped sleds in the tight stuff and felt it was more difficult to ride the 154...but then again i am 6'3" and 235 lbs. maybe it comes down to riding styles too. everyone rides a little different. one day i want to put a 3" rack on my 163, can't wait. I just hope we get as much snow next year as this year.

154s are deffinetly harder to maneuver in the trees.

some people find the 163s harder to maneuver but it is purely setup. too much ski pressure in the tight trees and your hooped. skis off the ground about a foot while climbing through the tight stuff and the 163 lays over and pivots around tight corners just like a 154.

Yup looked like no problem to me. I know when I made the more extreme jump from 144" to 162" on my sled it actually was easier to handle because I didn't have to tape the throttle to the bar to get around everywhere in the trees!!

I am running the 154 and love it, but want to jump to the 163 for when I need it. I have a friend with a 162 AC and he wants to drop to the 153 AC. So I have done nothing here for you except add to the confusion lol.....

I dont have an xp but i have an m8 and it has a 162 track and i say go for the long track. But once people get talking about 186 lengths i think that is stupid long. I think 162 is a good length track.
