Hi guys! never owned a Polaris before. Just bought a 2012 Polaris RMK 163. Theres some steering slop. With out actually turning the skis I can turn the handlebars quite a bit (maybe 3/4"). Is this a tighten up some bolts job, or replace a joint job? What do I have to take off to take a look and assess?

They are naturally pretty sloppy. There are 3 plastic bushings that hold all the steering parts in line. I broke 2 then replaced all 3 with a billet set from OFT. You need to take the panels and hood off to see all 3.

They are definitely not precision feeling. I have 3 pros and they are all like that.

So
Some times the plastic blocks that hold the steering post
have a crack in them but the steel bracket still
holds them together ,and will give u a loosey gooses feel

I have tie-ten mine up with a couple of wraps of electrical tape
Before bolting them back up with new ones .
fills the gap
lol

Good idea, check the steering block just below the gauges. I have found a few loose bolts on polaris products. Some the hard way.

thanks for the cheap/quick fix idea and peace of mind. Will do some digging when I get time off.

I just found the slop in a pro of a buddies. The steering shaft that goes down infront of the motor has a bearing/stud that the nut holding it in the bulkhead was loose. Plus the steering block below the handle bar was done.
